This is a brief demo-section of a longer suite, in a style whimsically called indoiraniarabaliesque. It was filmed at the 2009 Bedouin Bazaar, San Diego, CA by Arnie Larner Productions. Richard Adrian Steiger is an independent scholar, composer, multi-percussionist, instructor, recording artist/engineer, visual artist, and student of the universe. He holds an MA in music (ethnomusicology) from SDSU 1988. He has been a drum accompanist for belly dancers since 1988. First of all, with this one I didn't have the intention of doing anything commercial whatsoever - not that that is my style to begin with either. I wrote this before the previously posted song but put it aside cos wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it. In the end, what I wanted to do was to create almost static atmosphere, a sort of emotional slow-motion vacuum and experiment within that "moment". Some of the sounds on this track come from such odd things as a paper and a plastic bag, the scratching noise comes from a vinyl player and I also used random piano keys and vocal sounds. The drums in the chorus are sort of trying to convey the thought of marching but not getting anywhere, marching without destination, always ending up back in the same place.
