wildcat23: thanks for posting this....very useful
racandapcproductions: Ok, now i know! Thanks for posting this!!
ChefDesBananas: SUPERIOR! We had a ball in our little league game that bounced back and forth across the line. I backed up the umpire for calling it fair and one of the dads there went berzerk. Mwu ha ha! BTW... who is the umpire in the video? He looks familiar.
firstpickjim: The ump is me; Jim Booth. I lived in Novato, CA for 30 years, up until 3 years ago.
robert332201: I think baseball a beautiful game, but the rules got me crazy!!! I simply don't understand them.
WWESUCKSNOW: If you hit the ball right over the foul pole but lands in foul territory is it fair or foul?
firstpickjim: Fair. Here is the part of rule 2.00 that covers this; A FAIR BALL is a batted ball that while over fair territory, passes out of the playing field in flight. The pole is in fair territory. It should be called a fair pole, because if the ball hits the pole, or goes over it, it is a fair ball.
tatomuck18: How come if a ball lands fair but rolls foul before the base, why is it a foul ball? Shouldnt it be a fair ball no matter where it roller as long as it touches the ground fair?
firstpickjim: That's just not the way they made the rules. If it lands fair beyond first or third, it is fair regardless of where it bounces. But, balls that first touch the ground before the bases are not judged until they stop or are touched.
superbobbywalker: Because then it would be really easy to lay down bunts which bounce initially in fair territory, and then roll off into foul territory. The game would be very boring to watch, and it'd very hard to get people out if they kept doing that.
