LA Sheriff Threatens To Submit Photographer to FBI's Hit List Video
If you happened to see Rick Sanchez's broadcast of this encounter, you should know that he left out the some very important facts a la Fox News style in order to slant the story to his opinion and publicly smear me. His producer, Janelle, was also very upset that I decided to not do the show. You should have heard her screaming at me on the phone this morning, demanding to know my attorney's name. Finally, let's not forget that this is the same Rick Sanchez that struck a man with his vehicle in 1990 and like a spineless coward, left the scene. The man later died due to his injuries from the accident. According to Sanchez's attorney, the alcohol in Sanchez's system was due to Sanchez going home to calm his nerves with a couple of drinks. Sure.
Important facts that Rick Sanchez left out of his Bias Broadcast:
-Gylfie lied by stating MTA has a policy against photography. Photography is allowed on the Metro.
-Gylfie threatened to submit my name to the TLO.
-Gylfie threatened to disrupt the rest of my life by submitting my name to the FBI's "hit list".
-Gylfie made inaccurate claims that the London bombings were planted and that the terrorists took photos beforehand. None of which is true. The attack was conducted by suicide bombers, bombs weren't planted, and the attackers only did a trial run--which did not include taking photos.
-Gylfie did not just do a physical pat down, but went into my pockets and emptied the contents on the ground.
Sanchez also renamed Officer Bayes "unidentified man", and questioned if I ever heard of the London and Madrid bombings.
Yes, I obviously have. Neither attack was carried out by using cameras. However, cell phones and bags/ruck sacks were used. So why aren't those items being criminalized?

pboulding: Not the brightest cop, missing the other camera that was filming the whole time. so just take film when you "sell" those to the Base. Also why I wonder "why" new restrictions are not drafted based on what the cop's fear. maybe because its not the station but the commuters that's the terrorist target. As Cartman says RESPECT MY ATHORITI, Also I wish he snapped a pic of that cop.
masqueman01: Just a bully with a badge making up rules on the fly. Maybe his heart is in the right place, but it sounds like he really does not like people questioning his authority. I still would not argue with cops because they can do what they want. I have been threatened with arrest for politely asking questions too.
KeithDotson2007: Patriot Act in action.
CanonBlogger: Procedures 1. Submit a Filming/Photography Request Form All requests for filming on or with control of a train must be approved by Metro on the Tuesday prior to the week on which you wish to film due to Metros track control measures meeting.
CanonBlogger: DId you submit a request form? Sounds like hyou were deliberately trying to antagonize and create a controversial situation...
jdayala01: I personally do not see any wrong doing by this officer. Is his job and duty to question, investigate and detain any individual who seems be acting in a suspicious way. Sorry if this guy got offended but the officer does not know this guy intentions, or motives, therefore, he has all the right to question this guy. The officer did not make any abuse or mistreat the individual at any time. So the officer did a great job!!!!
stephubik: Probably the worst of it all is people actually being sympathetic with the cop and that ridiculous patriot act.
jamesthorpephoto: Gylfie - spelt C A R T M A N - You will respect his authoratay! If you we're up to no good, logically you'd be a damn site more covert than that!
myndexinc: Wow - that deputy is a moron. From MTA's OWN SITE: Photography Guidelines: * Only permissible in public areas, proof of fare required in marked fare required areas station -- The photographer was doing nothing wrong. The deputy was using his badge to harass some young guy with a camera. In HIIBEL V. NEVADA, The Supreme Court ruled that when detained by an officer you must only identify yourself in a state where there exists a "stop and identify" law. There is no such law in California.
frogsoda: In Cahoots with al-Quaeda..."???? The more this butt munch Cop talks, the more he shows his ignorance.
frogsoda: Umm Rick Sanchez is on CNN Not FOX. He slanted the story a la CNN.
mikeymo1741: Thanks for posting the address so I can drop the Sheriffs Dept a line - for being on the ball!!! What did this guy think would happen? Oh, wait - exactly what happened. Well, he got his 15 minutes, didn't he? Congrats. I'm not sure about Calif. specifically, but most states require a citizen to not interfere with a police investigation. Which he was doing. On purpose. To get famous. Which he did.
dabowery: And NYPD wants to reduce the education requirements of new recruits from an associates degree with a 2.0 GPA to a GED/High school degree. How many Al-Qaeda operatives slipped through this distraction? LA cop let his ego get in the way of his job. Just do it. Determine. Take action. Move on. I bet if photographer was cute girl then the cop would pose wherever she wanted him to ;) School yard antics beget school yard antics...
foxgguy2001: The dep articulated his reasons. Due to his training and experience he detained you because on occasion terrorists have been known to photograph/videotape terrorist targets. He might not have explained them as clear and iron-clad as you require, but he's human, not a robot. So answer the questions, stfu and be on your way.
gmcannon: Terrorist have google images.... We should really go after them.... Damn internet.
fatstevens: This man freaks me out..
MrNappo: it's really frightening how this guy misuses his power! land of the free...
theotrian: What you Americans have to understand is that this counter-terrorist policy is happening in a greater scale, in every part of your life. From CCTV to airport security to media control, and you are doing nothing about it...
The4LA2Baker0: mikeymo1741, What you just said makes no sense. So everyone with a camera is now a terrorist suspect? or we can only take pictures when and where they say so? you do realize you are a fascist, right? take that shit to china and leave my inalienable right alone. You are either a complete idiot with no idea of the implications of this, or a fascist war monger with no understanding of freedom and democracy. . You dont fight for freedom by taking the rights of the citizens away. wake up.
mikeymo1741: Well, thank you again for demonstrating the massive amounts of intelligence and understanding that got you into that mess in the first place. "inalienable right?" Have you ever even read the US Constitution? I'm just curious, because I must have missed the clause that says you have an inalienable right to take pictures in a subway station. Could you point that one out for me? Would it have killed you to be nice to the guy, expain what you were doing, and ask if it were alright?
The4LA2Baker0: well, since you obviously have no idea what you are talking about here is the 4th amendment; "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." you are obviously retarded. go to china and live like that if you want.
564955charlie: MikeyMo: Had he been asking in a Non-official capacity, he maybe could have been nicer, but when your dealing with police you have to make them aware that you know the law, otherwise they'll song and dance and lie like hell to get their point across.
mikeymo1741: Did he search you? Did he seize your camera? Seems to me, he asked you a question. And I would imagine some fruitcake with a hidden camera in a public transit hub would be considered "probable cause", even in calif. You know, Shawn, that's the second time you've insulted me personally without having met me. Interesting. You seem unable to conduct a reasonable discussion without lowering yourself to insults and tantrum-throwing. You know, kind of like in the video.
mikeymo1741: So a guy who goes out every day and puts his life on the line to protect your safety is unworthy of a little common courtesy? Really? What if this cop had seen the photog, ignored him, and then the station got blown up? All the same people would be vilifying the guy.
The4LA2Baker0: you clearly missed him being detained and searched. there is no law that says he cannot take pictures. since he wasn't breaking any laws and was simply taking film in a public subway station he was unlawful searched. a clear violation of 4th amendment rights. i insult you because you are a fascist and don't even know it. a verbal bitch smack might wake you from your delusional state of mind. take your "cops can do anything" attitude to china, they love it.
