Lithuania is to shut its only nuclear power plant for good by midnight - a condition of its European Union membership five years ago. The shutdown of the oudated Ignalina facility means a rather cheerless New Year for over two thousand workers facing hard times - with a replacement a long way off.

LegaCyLT: Ok ! So we, lithuanians have closed our one and only nuclear plant. And now we will be forced to buy expensive electricity, which is being produced by western Eourope countries. So where is DEMOCRACY in Europe ??? Our peaople in Lithuania are barely starving because of economical crisis, but who cares about that ?? Thi thing that we have shut down our nuclear plant means that our goverment cares about nothing, but licking EU goverment`s asses. It`s starting to feel pathetic being lithyanian.
