The President appoints a Committee of eminent persons to look into the report submitted by the US State Department to the US Congress.
The Committee is headed by Presidents Counsel D.S. Wijesinghe. The other members are former Attorney C.R. de Silva, Presidents Counsel Nihal Jayamanne, Attorney Mano Ramanathan and Chancellor of the Eastern University Jazeema Ismail.
Addressing newsmen at the Presidential Secretariat, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said as a Government they were giving priority to protect the image of the country. He said they are ready to work in a manner that will earn international commendation. He expressed confidence that they had responded to 99.9 percent of the accusations.
