One Moment in Time: Kerri Strug Video
Nobody had "one moment in time" like Kerri Strug. Throughout her career, her greatest desire was to compete in the Olympic all-around finals. She went to the 1992 Olympics but missed qualifying for the finals by a small margin. She never quite managed to score well individually in the important international competitions, though she had some of the most difficult routines in the world. She went to the Olympics again in 1996 as one of the Magnificent Seven, and many people believed she could win an individual medal this time. In the team round, she was the finisher on two events -- floor and vault -- the position for the strongest member of the team. After the third rotation of optionals, after the floor routine of Kerris life, the American team was solidly in first place. Disaster struck in vault. . . and the rest is Olympic history. Due to her injury (two torn ligaments), Kerri did not achieve her dream of individual gold, all-around or in events and is not remembered as the great gymnast she was. She never got the moment she wanted. However, she did get a moment: those few seconds on vault. What does it mean if we do not remember it?
Note 1: I love the Visa commercial. I realize its copyrighted, but its a commercial! Most people get paid to air these!
Note 2: Not in chronological order. After the second 1992 section, I think the clips are in order.
rexjdk: Beautiful Job!!!!!!!
2012knightstemplar: thank you. This is great! I am teaching this tonight in class, and wow, you helped me make it a moment in time.
Elemarth: "teaching"? Thanks so much, both of you!
Elemarth: I think I deleted your second comment. The "remove" button is too close to "reply" from my view. I wanted to ask, what class was this for? I can't figure out why you would be teaching about this, and I'm always curious.
Elemarth: The comment by 2012knightstemplar was: "Yes, I am a teacher in another country. I love it. 6 years." I'll try not to do that again.
2012knightstemplar: I am an English teacher. We live in Mexico and teach Latin students English. My phase 3 class, which means they have been here 3 years, has 5 wisdom guides. Kerri Strug is in the 4th wisdom guide we put together. , John Hancock, etc.... IT is not only Right now it is on women and men in the USA that have done incrediable things, or made history. People whom have contributed to the future of the USA. Example, Mark Twain, Tiger Woods, Betsy Ross, Madame CJ Walker, Juliette Gordon Lowan
2012knightstemplar: IT isa not only an English School, but a major source of information on all aspects of life. Philosophy, religion, ghost, secret societies, end of days, terrorism, ancient wonders, and so much more. It is actually quite fun and I learn everyday too!
Elemarth: Wow! Your job sounds fun. (I'm in college studying history, and I want to be a teacher.) I'm really glad you used Kerri. She deserves a lot more recognition than she gets. It's nice that you don't talk about just the usual people And I'm flattered that you liked my video!
