President Rajapaksa has emphasised that it is the responsibility of the nation to safeguard the freedom gained..
The President pointed out that the Government pledged to build a peaceful country eliminating terrorism. This assurance was given to the entire country. They received the blessings of the people and it was a success to them. Problems prevailing today cannot be passed on to the future. An assurance was given it will not be done. The strength utilized in the past to eliminate terrorism has been converted to develop the country. The President reminded that it should not be forgotten that the freedom gained should be protected.
He was addressing the 18th Annual General Meeting of the Private Tea Factory Owners Association. Speaking further, the President said everyone should be dedicated to protect the freedom that had been won defeating terrorism and with strong dedication and supreme sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces. The event was staged in Colombo. The President reminisced that the Government granted the fertilizer subsidy and facilities to obtain bank loans at a time when the entire world was embroiled in an economic crisis. Measures should be adopted to strengthen the national economy bringing together everyone who cares for the country. At the same time, President Rajapaksa claimed that there is a need for modernization in the local plantation sector.
The Private Tea Owners Association handed over 19 million rupees for the Api Venuven Api Fund. Ministers D.M. Jayaratne and Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena were among those present.
