Creative job hunting tips Video

Use your downtime while unemployed to your advantage.

Volunteer a few hours a week or a month in your field to add writing, graphics, or media projects to your resume while making contacts.

Staying actively "working" keeps you positive, energized and ready for interviews.

Get certified in Microsoft Office to add a little more to your qualifications on your resume.

Be creative in your search and look in the "Gigs" section of Craigslist to find local companies and some part time work in your field.

CurtisFTM: I'm not in the US but this was a really good video. I volunteered when I was unemployed and it helped me to get a job a couple of years ago after 9 months unemployed (not good for a 21 year old!). I would strongly recommend volunteering, it looks great on your reseme and if you are lucky enough to get a reference out of it, it can do so much for your future employability. Nice one Hank.
Dweebiedo: Thanks! Took me a couple of years to get the hang of creative job hunting. The trick is seeing the value in almost any experience and taking full advantage of it.
Grahamebs: I always love your informative videos! Very Very informative! I've gone and become a member of volunteermatch!
Dweebiedo: It's also a good way to find services, for me. Often, community service web sites aren't properly meta tagged. I think I may have found a home repair program for low income people can help me do some painting or siding.
Grahamebs: Very Cool! Your water got turned on right? Do I need to come up there and beat the tar out of the water people?
Dweebiedo: Aw man, they turned it on yesterday, but they didn't quite do it right. I could get maybe a tablespoon or two of water out of the tap yesterday, but thought that was because it was off. Stayed up last night, called this morning, they sent a guy out and he discovered they hadn't opened the valve all the way. I just expect this kind of thing to take days from my experiences back east, so I was suffering in silence, lol. All fixed tho. Thanks for asking!
Grahamebs: Ahhh Yea , here it would take them atleast 2 days. Funny story, My mothers water got turned off on Thanksgiving Day Right as we were doing something with the cooking... she was mad as one wet Hen..
GMPNY: Very good advice, positive push forward.
SwitchNplay: Ya know... your vids start for the most part kind of like a newscast. It's refreshing and fun. =o)
Dweebiedo: I'm an old newsie. :D
SwitchNplay: I've actually tried some of the tips you mentioned in the last few weeks since I moved. It's a smart idea becaue it not only keeps you busy, but it shows you are involved in the community and future employers like that. =o)
