How to polish a tank using air grinders Video

I know that this tank is not very oxidized, but I figured I'd make a vid on how to go about doing it. 1. I believe that there is a Science to polishing the right way. If you understand this, then you will be better off. Apply the brown/red rouge to the red/hard dipped pad. You will need to cut the surface using these. You are basically preparing a flatter surface before you start to polish. (like bodywork- start heavy and end light) You can use more steps for harder jobs, but i just do 2 stages for maintaning the shine. 2. Always start at the bottom of the work and work to the top. (unless its wheels) If you start from the top, you will leave many polish lines. (bad) Hold the grinder with the wheel facing to the left side. Make sure that the wheel is cutting/polishing straight up and down. 3.Drag the grinder back and forth from left to right. Try to stay steady. Make straight lines across. Note: the faster you go, the more visible scratches from the grinder will show. The slower you go, the more invisisible these lines will be. (good for finishing) You should be able to tell when you need more compound/rouge. Time and time again, I see vids of people using up half the bar on a couple passes. You don't need that much to get oxidation off. If the surface is really bad, then you want to sand or wet sand before polishing. When applying the rouge, passes to the left put it on and passes to the right take more of it off. Its hard to explain this in detail, but if you've ever buffed a car then you'll understand. 4. when you get to the top it will not hurt it to go over it again stating from the bottom again. I do this only for better results. 5. repeat this process with the white/finish wheel and green rouge. If you end up having black marks left behind either make another pass with the finish wheel or wipe with a clean towel. Note: If dont want marks left behind by the towel, then when you rub the spots off, always rub the same way the grinder does. (Straight up and down for this application) If you have some stubborn black marks you can remove them with a little paint thinner or brake cleaner. make sure that the solvent that you use doesn't leave a residue. I've seen people use baby powder and it works, but you have to rub it in to take the marks out. If you want the best finish, use the solvent with no residue.Bling! Bling!
