It kinda goes hand in hand with how the citizens have it, when the living standards go up, religion goes down. And actually, US citizens in general are poorer than in most european countries. For education to be a fair factor it has to be absolutely objective - like teaching creationism from a certain religion, other than in the context of teaching the beliefs of that religion, is absolutely outrageous.
