The Waking-Up Syndrome Video

Peak Moment 150: Ecopsychologist Sarah Edwards, PhD, explains stages people often go through when facing the implications of climate change and resource depletion. She outlines various aspects of Denial, Anxiety, Awakening, Despair, Powerlessness  and eventual Acceptance. Differentiating these from the normal grief process, Sarah emphasizes how we can face inevitable feelings of grief and free our energy for positive, practical action in our personal and community lives. MindTrip888: so long as we are fragmented and not understanding the effect each of us has adding up in the bigger picture, and act like it doesnt matter, we will poop in our own nest, and wonder why we catch diseases. We are killing the planet, no wonder we have more cancers, as we eat the planet and we are what we eat. We need green NOW. We need to plan the bigger picture instead of safe investments of the known, we need to create the unknown, based upon our future and current needs. Or we will all suffer.
1mealperday: our economy is faltering, there is little industry. Our recent sale of 5 year UST bonds Failed. dollar loses value day by day. unemployment is rampant. Tent cities all over the country now. If you have not already stocked your pantry do so now if you can. It will get worse very soon. Buy silver if you can. Asleeping bag can be home, and will for many.
wreckerpecker: Save everybody - save yourself
pgm98387: I feel like an ant on the rail trying to stop a freight train going 70mph....eco anxiety.
scarmenl: The guns are needed to make the government understand that the people will not be hearded. The oil running out is a great falsehood in my opinion. But even if there is lots of oil the people that control it and the results of its use are not good. This I see as a great chance for more and better energy that the use of will result in more jobs and a better and more secure life. So I see it as a chance to move towards true independence and energy freedom.
Hamish121212: I really wish I could download your videos on iTunes so I can watch them when I am away from home.
vention4wh: 1mealperday You're right on! I've been getting ready for all this since 2007 and I'm major ready. I have plans, backup plans and backup plans to the backup plans. I have guns, ammo, 2 years of food, solar panels and backup power storage, enough metals to live for 8 months (at it's current value), an EMP proof diesel pickup, and a highly technical blue-collar career that will keep me employed even if TSHTF. If there's no money, they'll pay me in chickens if necessary but I'll be working.
1mealperday: you are better prepared than i . good! am happy for you. many are not ready and i anticipate having to feed my neighbors. always better to have the hood on your side. some will form groups for good and bad reasons. many of us will learn to share houses as the winter sets in. Common difficulties will make true friends of many of us. The change in life style portends much free time as we discover we dont need 90% what we have. Lol been poor most my life and glad of it. I owe not . gone mining!
btigtime2: I'm the guy with the food and the guns. 2012 is only 500 days away
bladder1010: It occurrs to me that these messed-up neurotic eco-dolts aren't smart enough to tell me how to live.
OffGridHomesteading: wtf 500 days away? you might want to recount that
LifeLovesHappiness: This is a great channel!
dhymers: yes, but have you woken up yet ?
CandianBear: Hello, Could someone from the peak moment crew direct me towards the video and group of people in ?Willets? the main guy of the group is a engineer and he did a audit of the resources for the township in which he lived- he was very impressive and I would like to get in touch with him, but alas I can not remember exactly the name of the group and i can not find the video on youtube - any help would be appreciated. thank you Regards, Jason Dow
CandianBear: this is perhaps the best peak moment to date... this is such a needed area for addressing- i for one have gone through all these stages and now am in action but man alive it took me 6 years to get through some of the darker stages! keep up the brilliant work! cheers
peakmoment: Jason, the program is Peak Moment 125 "An Engineer Examines a Town's Energy Future" with Brian Corzilius. The organization is WELL -- Willits Economic LocaLization. I'll email you his email address via YouTube's inbox to protect his privacy. Janaia
peakmoment: Thanks so much for your comment. It IS challenging to face the dark news. I cycle through various stages, as Sarah suggests we'll do - though not denial. My grief over the demise continues to deepen, especially the accelerating affects of climate chaos and ecosystems decline. I think and collapse of industrial civilization is a good thing for the planet: it's wholly unsustainable. But that doesn't mean it won't be painful, unfair, and ugly. That's what we get for living in interesting times!
estoboy29: heres a solution not an easy one but a sure one, hook up roofs with pvc and run mister hoses inside to make a hydroponic system, and dang people realize we need hemp more now then ever. its eveything please help me to help ya?
estoboy29: also we could wrap a hydroponic system around nycs skyscrapers and have tomatoes growing all around the building.. all im asking you is to please help me get a hold of an architect thats a rebel.
PBrofaith: How much of the erratic weather can be laid at the feet of HAARP do you think? Or is that organisations work just an inconvenient truth ?
haarp2012: Very interesting point. Unfortunately, if you make it in your normal online life you're liable to draw some very strange looks from the hopelessly uninformed.
peakmoment: Huh?
peebeebaynut: I remember a Monty Python skit about a joke so funny it would cause the listener to die laughing. Full knowledge of what's up with Peak Oil is another form of information that has irreversible effects on the listener. My only escape from it at this point is to study metaphysics. WARNING: do not pay attention to Peak Oil. If anyone talks about it tell them they are full of s--t.
peakmoment: You're right: fully understanding the predicament we are in, consuming as if we had unlimited resources on this finite planet, changes your view utterly. Read John Michael Greer's blog "The Archdruid Report." He faces this head on rather than hoping for a brighter future, which we and our great-grandchildren won't have. What we can do is look at what we want to preserve of human culture, and nature, for the survivors.
bladder1010: Far out, man. You just BLEW MY MIND!
