'masks' (featuring Derek Lee Ragin) Video
'masks' was our first collaboration with renowned American counter-tenor Derek Lee Ragin, widely considered to be one of the finest voices of his generation. He was also one-half the voice of Farinelli, the Golden Globe-winning 1995 movie biography of the last great castrato. The song was originally recorded as a prog-rock wig-out with all associated bells and whistles. This piano-led trio version was arranged by Alan Bruzon and features Jenny Benwell, viola, and Gemma Lilian Crowther, flute.
'masks' was concieved as part of a multi-media project in collaboration with visual artist Felix Zakar, whose work can be seen in the final episode of Forgiveness, and in Voices in the Furnace - both on my channel.
Derek's stunning performance of 'A Dispetto d'un volto ingrato...' from Handel's Tamerlano has had over 40,000 hits on youtube; there's much more of his work available to watch, including an excellent making-of Farinelli documentary.
Ghostmaker16: What a great song & a great singer - the pictures by Felix Zakar are fantastic too.
Garthtwa: Brilliant song! An excellent companion piece to 'Walking to Babylon'? I'd love to see a live action video of this one two, somehow incorporating the haunting and captivating work of Felix Zakar. Great collaborative work here.
