...and so we get to the final trainer battle in this game. Heracross went down very easily to Dodrio's Drill Peck (something I was counting on) while Tyranitar did cause a few problems but Rhydon and Starmie's combined forces were enough to overpower it. Starmie going toe-to-toe with Alakazam and them both fainting at the same time was quite a nice touch, I thought. Dodrio couldn't realistically take on Alakazam due to the Psychic bombardment, so Starmie was the only real choice for it and it did fantastically well.

Gyarados unfortunately carried Earthquake again, knocking out Magneton before I could shock it. I couldn't replicate the strategy that I did with Lance this time as I couldn't get Venusaur in a position to put Gyarados to sleep, so I had to just go for Rhydon instead. It was either that or a long stallwar with Venusaur and waiting for the Sandstorm to kill Gyarados, but that would have pushed the video way over the limit, plus it would be pretty boring anyway.

Then there was Exeggutor for the penultimate matchup, giving Rapidash the only appearance it had in the entire set of second round videos. Ironically, it ended up dying, but Starmie came back and got the win with Ice Beam, leaving just Charizard between me and the end of the line.

Charizard is like one of the only fast things on Blue's team, but Starmie was still able to outspeed it despite being 15 levels lower. I guess it's quite fortunate for me that all ingame opponents outside of the competitive facilities have 0 EVs in their stats. The outspeed meant it was easy enough to take down. Had that Sitrus Berry not activated, Starmie would have lost unless I had used a Full Restore myself, but the Sitrus pushed Charizard over the border of Full Restore activation, while still keeping it low enough to be in KO range. It died to that last Surf, winning me the Champion spot again despite being many levels lower. Nothing all that impressive of course, but it's a nice feeling considering I didn't really bother training all that much apart from some purposely failed runs against Lorelei/Bruno where I didn't use the items in between the battle.
