Pro-western alliance wins Lebanon elections
"Lebanese elections for parliament seats are over, and results are out, revealing the outcomes of 71 seats won by the American backed alliance going under the name of March 14 coalition, and guided by the Hariri family, in comparison to 57 seats won by Hizbullah-lead coalition. The reason behind the current situation is thought to be due to sunnis standing behind the Hariri famiy, based on sectarian tendencies, while forgetting the fact that Hizbullah was the party behind freeing South of Lebanon from Israeli occupation. Hizbullah has accepted the results, and it is now time for March 14 alliance to show that they care more about Lebanon than for the position of being in control of Lebanon."
Afghanistan restores diplomatic ties with Iraq
Afghan Officials are hoping to start Ties with Iraq all anew. A high level Afghan delegation has already reached Iraq to level grounds for a meeting between the foreign ministers of the two American Invaded nations. According to the Afghan officials Iraqi government has also agreed to initiating diplomatic ties between the two nations. Afghanistan and Iraq have had no diplomatic relations for the last 12 years. The ties broke when Taliban took over in Afghanistan and Iraq was ruled by Saddam Hussein. Afghanistan and Iraq have numerous areas of interest. People of both countries are predominantly Muslims, for example, and share cultural and religious bonds. One thing more that they share in common since March 2003 is the American Invasion of both countries. These diplomatic ties are hoped to bring about new rays of hope in the hearts of suffering people of the two nations."Death penalty should be repealed.
Chinese made fake drug consignment seized in Nigeria
The accidental exposure of consignment of fake anti malarial generic pharmaceuticals in Nigeria which was labelled as `Made in India and actually found to be produced in China is absolutely and outrageous. This is unlikely to be an isolated incident and one sees no reason for Nigeria to be the only country to be receiving such consignments. Fake foreign made drugs can do tremendous harm to our interests. It not only dents our image but also takes away our legitimate market share. Some might think that its the multinational firms trying to discredit the two countries by labelling their drugs as substandard, so that they would have greater access to the African markets. Guesses apart, since this is the first incidence of such a large consignment getting seized, India should take this issue strongly with its Chinese side.
Kenya to abolish capital punishment
The debate has raged for some time now whether capital punishment serves any purpose. To some people, the fear of hanging acts as the best deterrent to murderers, violent criminals and those who would commit treason. In reality the deterrence value of capital punishment has never been demonstrated, and in any case most civilized countries of the world have done away with it without any lethal results. This may have informed our leaders since the 1982 coup attempt not to sign the death warrants. The penalty should be deleted from our statutes, for instance when people stay for too long on death row, they lose all hope, hence the many incidents of violence in our prisons. Incarceration without a timeline is in itself a violation of human rights.
