THE SWEENEY - IN FROM THE COLD 1976 (1) Video

Another rough, raw and uncompromising crime thriller, again from series 3, featuring the best elite crime-fighting unit in England. Written by the late Tony Hoare (CROWN COURT, MINDER) and directed by Terry Green (who also helmed RINGER), this one is about Regan being haunted by memories of a colleague being brutally maimed, during an armed robbery. When he catches up with Billy Medhurst, one of the gang they were chasing, Jack wants to find out from him who made Eddie Jackson a cripple.

IN FROM THE COLD has an electronic music score throughout which is unusual as previous episodes had often included funk rock, jazz and classical soundtracks. The use of synthesizers and futuristic noises gives the episode a dark, grim and eerie feel.

CI5AgentSweeps: I watched the whole part which is rare because I never usually find the time to watch a full 10 minute vid! But I really got into it! I'll watch the whole ep! Was Eddie Jackson in any previous episodes? Are you going to upload the full episode of that clip whre that young copper got shot? A 5**** ep!

Banner1979: Nope, Eddie wasn't in any previous eps. This was the only one to feature him. Those flashbacks are the only reminder we have of Eddie Jackson being injured. More parts will be coming up. When I first saw this episode in '99, I found the flashback scenes very exciting. This is a really clever story which you should really enjoy, right to the very end, Sweeps.

Banner1979: You can feel the summer of '76 heatwave in this one. Maybe that's partly the reason why Jack lashes out at Billy. :wink: This is another episode where John was fab as Insp. Regan. He is bitter, vindictive and full of rage in this one. Nobody else could have played Regan like he did.
