The Selangor state is one of the most economically progressive states in Malaysia. Since Pakatan Rakyat government took over the state administration in 2008, it has introduced several financial benefits to its citizens. The introduction of more new programs is ongoing. As these beneficial programs are not well promoted or publicized through the mainstream media, the state government deploys the information via its newsletters, through the newsletters of it component political parties, through word of mouth, through their "ceramahs" and when their leaders "turun ke padang" as well as their road shows. Through the road shows or "Majlis Mesra Rakyat", the councilors with the local authorities under the state government or the elected state assemblyperson's office can effectively engage with those deserving citizens. They do not just announce but actually assist the people to sign up and submit the application forms for approval and registration. The parliamentarians from Pakatan Rakyat also have those forms and services available at their service centers.

On October 4, 2009, Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS) Council Member A. Murugeshu hosted a "Majlis Mesra Rakyat" at his office. It was also in conjunction with the official opening ceremony of his new MPS Zone 4 Local Councilor office cum Pakatan Rakyat service center. Klang MP Charles Santiago of DAP officiated the opening.

A. Murughesu is also a Special Assistant to Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng of DAP.

MPS or Selayang Municipal Council is a local authority under the Selangor state government. The municipal council is responsible for public health and sanitation, waste removal and management, town planning, environmental protection and building control, social and economic development and general maintenance functions of urban infrastructure for the Gombak district and its vicinity areas. The council, formerly known as Majlis Daerah Gombak (Gombak District Council) has its main headquarters located at Bandar Baru Selayang, Selangor.
