Clinton Commissioning USS New York Steel World Trade Center Video

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at the Commissioning of the USS New York, built with steel from the rubble of the World Trade Center The USS New York, built with steel from the rubble of the World Trade Centre, was put into service Saturday, November 7, 2009, both as a symbol of healing and strength. Navy officers, sailors, and New York dignitaries joined first responders and families of Sept. 11 victims for the ceremony on a Manhattan pier. With a long drum roll, the commissioning flag and pennant were hoisted and the ship's crew was sent in on its first watch. The seven and a half tons of steel debris from ground zero had been melted down to form the bow of the USS NewYork.US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was a U.S. senator from New York before she became the nation's top diplomat. She represented the Obama Administration at the commissioning and spoke of the searing memories the ship carries in its steel bow of "lives cut short, families ripped apart, a nation attacked."
