So Far Away Ep 2 Video

We have been driving around for 5 days straight. Not even stopping at a hotel to sleep at night. If she got tired we would switch places and I would drive. But if both of us were tired we would park the car at a rest stop and sleep in the car. We only did this because mom didnt want to spend money on a hotel room for one night. I missed sleeping in my comfortable bed so much.

My stomach growled. I was so hungry for a home cooked meal. We have been living off of fast food. Im getting so sick of eating the same thing everyday. My stomach growled again loud. My mom must have heard it because she jumped.

Laura: What was that noise?
Allie: My stomach. Im starving. Can we stop some where to eat?
Laura: The nearest town is about 10 minutes away. You can wait till then cant you?
Allie: I guess.

I could hear my stomach growl all the way to town. We found a small diner to eat at. Mom grabbed a newspaper and we found a table to sit at. You all are probably guessing as to where I am right now. I wish I knew. I stopped looking at the signs days ago.

Waiter: Hi. Im Jane and Ill be your waiter. Can I get you anything to drink?
Allie: Ill just have water.
Laura: And Ill have the same.
Jane: Ill be right back with your drinks.
Allie: How much longer are we going to live like this? We cant keep eating take out and I need to go to school if I ever want to go to college. I hate moving around all the time. Why is it so hard for you to find one place to live and stay?
Laura: Im trying my best. Its not easy for me either.

I hate seeing my mom unhappy, but you have to admit moving around from state to state is not a very exciting way to live. Mom was looking through the newspaper like she usually did every time we stop somewhere to eat. She always looks to see what apartments and houses are available. I dont know why she even bothers looking because she never finds anything. The waiter came back with our waters.

Jane: Are you ready to order?
Allie: Yeah. UmIll just have a salad.
Jane: Dressing?
Allie: French.
Laura: Ill have a cheeseburger and fries.
Jane: Ok Ill be back with your orders.
And then as usual my mom said
Laura: This place looks perfect. What do you think? It has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a nice kitchen. It sounds like a nice apartment.
Allie: You say that now but you dont mean it.

I used to get so excited when my mom found us a place that we might move in to. Then I realized there was no reason to get my hopes up because I always wined up disappointed.

Laura: This time I do mean it.
Another thing she always says.
Laura: At least pretend to be excited.
Allie: Yay. You found an apartment.
Laura: Thats a little better.
We both burst out laughing.
Allie: Were not really gonna look at that place are we?
Laura: No we dont have to. If you could chose where we go next where would you want to go?
Allie: New York.
Laura: Then thats where we are going next.
Allie: Youre joking right? You cant be serious.
Laura: Im very serious. New York isnt that far from here.

I went next to my mom and hugged her tightly. She has never let me choose before. I have always wanted to go to New York. We have always lived in small towns and never a big city before. Mom was laughing at how happy I was. The waitress came back with our food. We ate in silence and were back on the road heading towards New York.
