Village children will face no hindrances, says President 6-10-09 Video
President Rajapaksa has assured that he will leave no room for children of villages to experience difficulties. He said teachers are vested with a significant task of moulding a virtuous future generation.
The President opined that an era was witnessed in which schools in Colombo and urban areas enjoyed all the facilities and the village children had to seek admission to such schools. But the Mahinda Chinthana succeeded in changing this situation. He is happy that a child from a school launched in Hambantota two years ago had come first in the Year Five Scholarship Examination, while another student from Jaffna, a town far away from Colombo had secured the first place in the same examination in Tamil medium. He said it was the onus of the teachers on a day when their services are acclaimed and honoured, to build a disciplined generation which respects elders and care for the motherland.
The President was speaking after opening a new building and the playground of the Vijitha Central College at Dickwella in Matara. The expenditure incurred was 200 million rupees. 31 million rupees alone was spent on improving the playground to international level. The President also launched the school website and planted a Na sapling at the school premises. The President launched construction of a new swimming pool of the school. Members of the Maha Sangha including the Mahanayake of the Sri Rohana Chapter the Ven. Aththudawe Sri Rahula thera, Ministers Susil Premajayanth, Prof. G.L. Peiris, Dulles Alahapperuma, Mahinda Amaraweera and Gamini Lokuge, Deputy Ministers Sarath Kumara Gunaratne and Neomal Perera and School Principal Nimal Dissanayake were among the large gathering present.
