douglas787: What I didn't understand is that his deployment to the middle east seemed to be the trigger for the rampage. He was a doctor, not a foot soldier, so he would have not been in combat, he would have been on a base away from the lines, doing basically the same job he did in the states. I don't see why he would have a problem with that, when you join the military, moving around is part of your routine. He would not have to fight fellow muslims, so why did he snap? Just doesn't make sense.

txrottie: The Army is a volunteer force. If someone doesn't want to do something they can refuse and get out. There will be consequences since they took an oath to obey orders. But they CAN get out if they really want.

JimmyFormerMarine: txrotti, as a commissioned officer, Major Hasan could have got out of the Army at any time by simply resigning his commision. But he didn't do that. He wanted to be a Jihadi, kill infidels, and screw virgins in Islamofacist heaven.
