FrecnhConnetcion: Professor Manipulator. Giving evidence without first identifying yourself (by just showing your papers) turns the said evidence to not credible nor reliable. Refusing to prove his identify as requested was the best way to end at the police station. Professor was obviously aware of that, but frustrated by years of discrimination, he voluntary chose to (try to) shoot down that white cop creating this affair. I thought Obama was cleverer, being so easily trapped is primary manipulation.

nkors345: You just refuse to take the incident for what it is and instead infuse race into the situation. Why can't the black community accept the fact the Dr. Crowley was arrested for disorderly conduct? Any dimwit knows you don't yell and start fights with police officers. If the black community so badly wants this to be the post-racial era, then stop infusing race into every issue that involves blacks.

rdawta: race was certainly a factor, when Gates demanded for the officers i.d. in his house. the officer didn't feel the need to respond or respect the elder uppity Black man but instead arrested him. if Gates was white (in skin) this would have never happened. Granted Gates was probably arrogant and tired, but ultimately he was in his home. He had a right to see the officer's id as well, not be arrested.

gdspam: Race was an issue indeed... because Gates saw a white cop and knew he didn't have to respect his authority because he could always fall back on the race card. I was parked at a gas station the other day and a cop pulled up and asked for my ID and registration. I gave him a small bit of attitude and asked what I did wrong and he went off on me. Said if I wanted to give him a hard time he would tow my bike and ask his questions later. Sadly im white and I can't use the race card like Gates.

gdspam: Point being... Police have a job to do and you should just let them do it. If it comes that you can be rude and disorderly to police then we would HAVE any police and it will be your own fault when no one comes to save you when people break into your house.

SK3Nives: When a cop questions u, you're supposed 2 cooperate with him, and it's common sense that you will be treated more harshly if you are rude or loud. Sure Dr.Gates was mad I'd be mad to but I certainly wouldn't yell(I'd probably just use short answered sarcastic remarks but none the less cooperate) I think it's unfortunate he got arrested for yelling but it can classify as disorderly, why would a guy who isn't racist suddenly arrest someone for a race issue, it was the way gates acted not his skin
