Addicted is the second of four planned albums by The Devin Townsend Project, a project of Canadian musician Devin Townsend. The album is Townsend's eleventh album overall, and is due to be released November 17, 2009. The album was written and produced by Townsend, and features Ryan Van Poederooyen, Brian Waddell, Mark Cimino, and Anneke van Giersbergen.
Addicted is the second of four albums in the Devin Townsend Project series, each featuring a different lineup and theme. Addicted was written and produced by Townsend. The album features vocals by Townsend along with Anneke van Giersbergen, a former member of Dutch band The Gathering. Brian Waddell and Ryan Van Poederooyen of the former Devin Townsend Band will be playing bass and drums, respectively, while Mark Cimino will be playing guitar alongside Townsend. Recording for the album began May 6, 2009.
According to Townsend, Addicted will be an album of "melodic" and "danceable" music, but will be "much heavier" than his previous albums with The Devin Townsend Band. Townsend has compared the album's songwriting to his more accessible songs, such as "Life" from Ocean Machine: Biomech (1997), "Stagnant" from Terria (2001), and "Material" from Physicist (2000). The album's production style was directly influenced by Nickelback's 2008 album Dark Horse.[8][9] Townsend has quipped that "Some parts of it sound like Meshuggah, some parts of it sound like Boney M."[8] Addicted will include a new version of the song "Hyperdrive" from Townsend's 2007 album Ziltoid the Omniscient with lead vocals by van Giersbergen, who has performed a cover of the song with her current band Agua de Annique.
The album will be released on Townsend's independent label, HevyDevy Records. The album will feature art by Travis Smith, who did the album art for Townsend's previous albums Terria, Accelerated Evolution, and Ziltoid the Omniscient. On October 27th, Townsend posted the track "Bend It Like Bender!" on his MySpace page. On October 31st, the whole album leaked on the internet.

00Dakka: I love all of devin's stuff but this is especially weird as it blends pop sensibilities with metal and somehow manages to NOT be nu-metal
CaptainAqua: CD's do more support than you'd expect. Same with legal downloads of the music. It lets the bands/artists/whatever know the best places to tour. :)
alreadytaken334: This is true. I think when I said that I meant mainstream corporate artists aren't helped a lot *financially* by record sales. Devin is 100% independent though, so it helps him a lot.
CHA0SD3LTA: CDs dont aupport a mainstream artist at all, most are lucky to get atleast 50 cents a CD...
alreadytaken334: And depending on the context of "mainstream" (I'm assuming you are referring to popular radio artists), most of their money comes from other things: concerts, merchandise, music videos, radio play, etc.
Jartny: I don't get why somebody thumbed you down. This is indeed a great record. I'm addicted to it as well, amazing stuff.
ViperRob42: Thanks, incredible album and I think genius in its own unique way the way anything Devin makes is, def in my top albums of the decade list, can't wait for Deconstruct & whatever the 4th one is gunna be
alreadytaken334: 4th one is Ghost.
meshugganaut: This man is from a different universe...he has to be...his music is just too far ahead. Never stop Devin. We ALL appreciate you and love you too much.
meshugeah: Mesh thinks Deconstruction is still under construction ,)
jamescraybaby: that's alright..your'e only human boy!!!.....its like a loop in my head.......all hail king devin....always delivers....i mean always!!!!!
TheRealFatassFilms: This and Mastodon's "Crack The Skye" are probably the best compilations of music that I've heard in at least the past 5 years (I give this the one up over Mastodon's release, but I'm in love with that CD as well). I'm close to certain that Devin contracted the greatest female vocalist in existence to sing on this too, so I mean shit. When Anneke is singing on your CD, you get automatic props from me from now on.
screwy1974: Anneke is by far my favorite female vocalist. As usual Devin knows what hes doing.
Edd731: Yeah that's what I heard. I also heard they make more money selling shirts at gigs and the like. Downloading is killing musicians especially talented strapping lads like good ol Dev! Dont download his album you scuzzy thieves, pay him for his hard work, skills, ambition and heart!
alreadytaken334: a. Downloading isn't the same thing as stealing. Stealing a CD from a store cheats a lot of people out of money (people at the store, manufacturers, people who shipped, etc) and takes away a copy that someone else can't have. Downloading is neutral when it comes to money. b. You assume that if someone downloads this album, they will never pay for it. I've downloaded hundreds of albums, and I own about 40 CDs. I dont have the ability to buy all the music I want when I want it, so I buy it later.
alreadytaken334: A lot of people, especially fans of metal, will buy the music eventually because they think it's the right thing to do, or they just like the satisfaction of owning physical copies. I've downloaded every single one of Devin's albums, and of those albums I have Ocean Machine, Addicted, City and Alien on CD. I plan to have them all in the future. Maybe once I get a job I can get them (also remember that a lot of downloaders are teens who don't have adequate means of buying music).
TheImmaculateDude: i bet the crew for deconstruction will be the members of syl... or slipknot... ahhh, how awesome...gotta hand it to him, i love his shit, and you should too. really. love it. now. give it a moment. suck it in. really listen to it. okay, good. yourwelcome. feels good dont it?
Edd731: Good point, fair enough mate. It sad that there are people who can afford it and wont pay though.
Alnard: People make a big deal out of music downloads but without it I would never have even heard of Devin Townsend. Downloads let people who wouldn't normally have listened to an artist get a chance too. If the person then likes them they might go out and buy an album or go and see a show. So really it just lets artists, especially those that aren't 'mainstream' get there music out there. It's almost like advertising people :D
diabeticmonkey: He said himself that he doesn't care if you download it or not, because he wrote it to be heard, no matter how.
hoopodi: I love how foreboding this song is... NOW DECONSTRUCT!
johnpetrucci87: This guy makes a great point. I probably would've missed Devin had I not downloaded his stuff. I have since bought 4 albums from him so... in my mind he wins.
salmacis81: That's it dude! If I wouldn't have heard his music in this page, probably I hadn't known such an amazing musician. Evenmore, I would pay a ticket to go to see his shows if he came to my country. Thanks to all the people who takes their times to download Devin's music.
salmacis81: When I wrote: "Thanks to all the people who takes their times to DOWNLOAD Devin's music". I wanted to write: "Thanks to all the people who takes their times to UPLOAD Devin's music". Sorry!
samuraibambi: NOW DECONSTRUCT!
