IAmNotAFunguy: First to view and comment! What do you mean it will recieve over-the-air signals for the last time? Aren't you going to hook up a converter box to it or cable? Also, WKYC Channel 3 is the nightlighting station in my area.
DrCassette: In Germany we don't have any analog on air television since 2007. And this year the analog satellite television will be switched off. Then the only analog television available is the cable television.
CoolDudeClem: For a long time I thought the analogue shut down was only happening in England, but only recently I discovered it's happening pretty much everywhere. It's a shame TV stations don't care about the analogue TV's anymore.
spatsbear2: I meant over the air using an antenna to receive analog stations using its own tuner (until I build a transmitter myself) Though normally I already hook it up to cable or any local source anyhow.
Vinylrecordsneverdie: Seems like the government is supporting Walmart so we can trash our old analog set so we can get a new one there, LOL!
vwestlife: "Nightlight" stations are allowed to remain in analog on the air until July 12th running the continuous DTV converter box promos. I can receive two of these nightlight channels from NYC and one from Philly. Also low-power LPTV stations can remain in analog with normal programming; LPTV has no mandatory digital conversion date as of yet. And of course, video games, VCRs, RF modulators, etc. can play on forever more! :-)
Jamiep84: The German analogue satellite is being switched off this year? :( I still watch those channels here in the UK - they still have really good picture quality.
BrooklynMouseReturns: You can use your old TV set to play your old NES games. I have a 1976 JVC 6" portable black & white TV where I hooked up to my NES.
pcgod8: I used to receive 3 or 4 analog channels. Now with digital, I receive 18 channels. All crystal clear and decent signals. I love digital. Cable TV is still better, but at least over-the-air is better than it was.
wilkes85: whoa I was waiting for you to make a video like this hehe It's also a joke. This whole conversion.
bmtimv: thats crazy
jedw: Where I live in England the picture quality on analog is very good, we only have 5 analog networks, but digital is a bit dissapointing by comparison becasue you DO see the compression.
CassetteMaster: It is a sad thing that they completely switch to digital. I think I saw the exact same infomercial with the "1-888-CALL-FCC" on a TV at the thrift store yesterday (6/23/09). It is good that our VCRs and such will still work (of course). It would be cool if citizens could make their own private TV stations. I would love to run a TV program of me just doing whatever I feel!
NardDogz: Analog frames would hold together no matter how much motion was involved. Digital frames often turn into a blocky mess. The switch to DTV is not a 100% gain, that is for sure. Also, now we have these converter boxes, but what happens when the decoding hardware in them becomes obsolete? Throw them away too? Wll they always work in the future? Or have the TV broadcasters decided to stop at the current MPEG encoding / decoding method to ensure compatibility? Anyone know?
Skiller444: No, it's definitely not getting completely switched off this year. Maybe some of the smaller shopping channels will switch off their analog Astra signal this year, but the big channels will not switch off before 2010 and the very last channel probably not before 2012. Too bad sooner or later it will be completely shut off. You're right, the picture quality is really nice, no compression at all (exept MTV Germany which is actually a analog copy of the highly compressed digital Astra transmission)
Fred924: In NJ, there are still a couple of LPTV stations that broadcast. I can pick up about 6 of them. There are no switchover date for them.
m134mr: i wonder what they will use the frequencies for when they become used by the analog TV?
MRLOL785: We gave up the only free and easy way to get TV so teenage drama queens could complain about stuff more. I would understand getting rid of some channels so that police stations could operate easier, but also all that for cell phones!? Not to mention that I used to get 3 UHF channels( too lazy to get a VHF antenna) like DC20, the local PBS, and PAX fine. I don't get any F*cking Digital channels with a converter! Some say they are watching us with the boxes, I say they R trying to piss us off!GRRR
saturnday: When most stations played the DTV informercial after they ended Analog programing, they lowered the power of their signals. That is the most likely reason for your difficulty in recieving those stations.
