2009 Breeders Cup Turf - Conduit Video

Conduit joined High Chaparral as the only repeat winners of the Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) when the strapping chestnut colt rallied from dead last to overtake pacestting Presious Passion in deep stretch to capture the $3 million event at Santa Anita Nov. 7.

Under aggressive right-handed urging by jockey Ryan Moore, Conduit edged past the stubborn front-runner in the final 100 yards to post a half-length win in the 1 1/2-mile event.

The winning time, 2:23.75, was a tick off the 2:23.42 clocking the Irish-bred 4-year-old son of Dalakhani turned in last year when he posted a 1 1/2-length triumph for Moore, his regular rider. Conduit went over the $5 million mark in career earnings.

High Chaparral won the BC Turf in 2002 and in 2003 (in a deadheat with Johar) for trainer Aidan O'Brien.

lydiabell: Oh, what a shame Presious Passion couldn't hold on. He ran an amazing race -- 45:14 for the half, what the hell?

BrianShaw23: I love that horse Precious Passion, that beast is savagely competitive, amazing fractions and still almost held on for the win.

jmplays44: Incredible effort by Precious Passion. 45 flat 109.1 and 134.2 and he almost held in sub 224! One of the greatest efforts I have ever seen by a horse in defeat. BTW, didn't Fantastic Light also win a pair of BC Turfs? Thanks Pmanners.

StarGirl11: No its not look up this year's united nations stakes he wired the field while opening up 20 on the field in the same kind of fractions he set in this race. Presious Passion is a freak who has yet to be fully acknowledged for the skills he possesses. This performance is consistent with his previous performances on hard turf, he loves to open up on the field and then when the opponents start catching him he won't let them get past easily often coming back like today to fight his opponents.

BrianShaw23: It's a shame Presious Passion is a gelding, he could've been a great sire with that combination of amazing speed and stamina that he has. There isn't a horse in the world that can do what Presious Passion does on the lead and still hold on/win in the stretch.
