Marco Borriello bagged a spectacular brace to give Milan a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Parma, both set up by Ronaldinho.

Fifth welcomed fourth as the Rossoneri hoped to resume their positive streak after dropping a 2-0 lead in Naples midweek. Ignazio Abate was suspended with Alessandro Nesta, Marek Jankulovski, Daniele Bonera, Christian Abbiati, Marco Storari, Oguchi Onyewu and Davide Di Gennaro sidelined. Parma missed MacDonald Mariga, Andrea Pisanu, Jonathan Biabiany, Antonelli and Russo, but started with Alberto Paloschi, who is still co-owned by Milan.

Ronaldinho went on a mazy run down the left, but Gennaro Gattuso couldn't steer the header on target. In the same move Blerim Dzemaili went on the counter and unleashed a screamer from 30 metres that Nelson Dida fingertipped on to the crossbar. It was a crucial save, as otherwise the ball would've shot into the net.

Milan took the lead with a wonderful team goal. Ronaldinho did most of the work, surging forward from his own half to the edge of the box, where his slide-rule pass between two defenders allowed Borriello to nutmeg the goalkeeper.

Dida performed another stunning save to bat Valeri Bojinov's header off the line from six yards at the back post. The former Manchester City striker flashed an angled drive across the face of goal.

Massimo Oddo's searing cross only grazed Pato's head when clean contact would've put it in the back of the net. Daniele Galloppa was unmarked on the edge if the box during a counter, but aimed a weak effort straight at Dida.

Parma risked an own goal with a deflection, but it looped wide and Borriello was unable to make the most of it.

After the restart Dida blocked a Galloppa snapshot and Antonini pulled up clutching the back of his right thigh, making way for Gianluca Zambrotta. A long team move was terminated by Pirlo's shot charged down, then Antonio Mirante did well to beat away a Clarence Seedorf turn.

Striker Nicola Amoruso replaced midfielder Dzemaili. Dellafiore prevented Borriello from tapping in Pato's pull-back. There was controversy on 68 minutes when Pato tried to burst between Lucarelli and Lunardini and was cut off, but the referee waved play on.

Paloschi so nearly scored against his former club moments later. He sprung the offside trap and went one-on-one with Dida, but the goalkeeper narrowed the angle to force the shot inches over the bar.

Milan were considerably more sluggish in the second half and, despite still leading 1-0, the San Siro crowd started to jeer their players. A free kick went to the byline where Pato volleyed it back in for Borriello, but Mirante just about got there first.

The Rossoneri went so close to killing the game off four minutes from time. Thiago Silva came charging up the field and exchanged passes with Borriello, but turned the header on to the crossbar from six yards.

Borriello finally put the result beyond doubt in stoppages with a sensational finish. Ronaldinho burst through two defenders, chipped the cross from the left and his scissor-kick volley bounced off the ground into the far top corner.
