Taken - Chapter 34 Video

I don't like this chapter. At all. Hope you like it more than I do.

"You haven't asked me what the other reason was." Denver mumbles, finally breaking the silence.
"I figured you would tell me when you were ready for it." I say, shrugging.
"It's also the day Kim died." I stare at her, again at a loss for words.
"What?" I ask, hoping I didn't hear it right.
"Kim died on the day of my fourteenth birthday." Denver repeats and I see fresh tears in her eyes. Please, don't start crying again. I don't know how much more of this I can handle tonight. Or this morning. Or whatever time it is.
"I'm so sorry." I whisper.
"Why would you be sorry?"
"I am sorry that you got hurt like that. I really am. It's not fair to you."
"Like I said before, life is not fair." Denver says, sighing.
"Are you okay again?" I ask, carefully taking her chin in my hand so I can lift her face to look her in the eye.
"No, but that's fine. I'll never be okay." Her voice sounds so sad that it almost breaks my heart.
"No, you will be. I don't know how or when, but we're both gonna be okay." I look her in the eye and hold her gaze. She has to believe me.
"It's nice of you to say that, but I doubt it. Maybe you'll get out of this mess, but I won't. It's too late for me."
"Don't say that." I whisper. I don't want to hear her giving up. There is always hope, no matter how bad the situation is.
"But it's true. Your family might pay for you, people are looking for you. There is no hope for you, not me."
"You forgot that little fact that my family doesn't want me back." I say, my tone bitter.
"You don't have enough evidence to draw that conclusion just yet." Denver says, shaking her head.
"So you're saying they do want me back?"
"I'm saying that we don't and can't possible know." I nod. "]She is right. I don't know enough to figure out the truth right now.
"You have to stop thinking about it. It's not healthy. Please, let it go. Whatever will happen will happen. You can't change anything. Don't let their mind games get to you."
"What if it's not a game?" This time it's Denver who wraps her arms around me. I let her hug me and try my hardest not to cry.
"Then we'll make sure you'll survive without them. You are strong enough to get through this. You can do it." she whispers.
"I can't. I can't. I can't do anything without them. I'm nothing. Dan and the others are right, who would want me?" Denver pushes me away from her, stopping my rant. She looks at me and I see tears in her eyes again.
"I would want you."
"You're just saying that to make me feel better." I say, shaking my head. She sighs and looks away. Busted Denver, you can't lie to me. Not about something like that.
"That might be true, but if I were your mother, I'd want you. I would never abandon my child. No matter what he or she might have done, I'd love my child. Because that is what mothers are supposed to do. They are supposed to love and help their children. You'll be fine, your family will save you. You just have to hope."
"That sounds a little bit hypocritical coming from someone who has no hope at all."
"You wouldn't have much hope either if you'd been here for seven years and saw more horrors than in all the horror movies on earth combined." she says and she lets go off me completely. She wants to get up and go to her own bed, but I stop her.
"What?" she asks, her voice now annoyed. No, don't go back to that old bitch again. I don't think I could handle that.
"I still have some food." I say, getting the bread. It looks gross from being in my pocket for so long, but at least its edible. I think.
"You eat it. You need it more than I do." she says, walking off again.
"You need food too."
"I am used to not eating for days. There have been times when they accidentally would forget to feed me for over 4 days. I can go without food a lot longer than you can. I once almost died from starvation. Trust me, I am not as hungry as you are." I shrug and eat the bread. If she insists.
"Good boy. You really need it more than I do. Especially with your diabetes." I totally forgot about that. God, now I feel stupid.
"Go to sleep now. The next few days will be hard." she says, lying down on her own bed.
"Okay, good night." I whisper, following her example. I close my eyes and feel myself relaxing slowly. I'm still hungry, but at least I'm not starving anymore.
"Thank you Nick." Denver suddenly whispers.

musicismylife500: So we know Kim died on her 14th birthday. I still want to know who she is though. Nick needs to stop thinking about if his family doesn't want him. His family WILL come get him. I don't know why you thought this sucked. It was not that bad. It showed more of Denver's good side, which is good b/c it means she isn't as cold as we think she is.

madison50364: I absolutely loved it. You are way too down on yourself for chapters like this. I love how they're interacting now. It's no longer this weird semi-separated relationship. They're becoming good friends. I love them together, in the friend way. I'm hoping Nick will find a way to raise her hopes and faith. She needs it, even though she doesn't think so. Amazing. :D

bookofathousandwords: i hope denver isn't going back to that old bitch. and on the contrary, i think this chapter is really well written. you might not know it, but your writing seems much more comfortable in nick's POV now, and well, you sound much more like a guy actually thinking his thoughts, and not just a girl writing like a guy. :)
