Fairfax, VA (September 23, 2009) --- Grammy winners the Blind Boys of Alabama have teamed up with reggae icon Toots Hibbert (of Toots and the Maytals) to release Perfect Peace, the first single off the Blind Boys upcoming album, Duets. The CD is an anthology of collaborations from the past 15 years, featuring an eclectic and impressive list of guests.
"I grew up musically in the church and it was great working with The Blind Boys and capturing the spiritual vibe I love," says Hibbert.
The Blind Boys will also preview songs from the upcoming album, which will be released Oct. 27 on Saguaro Road Records, at the City Winery in New York City on Oct. 25 at 8pm. Special guest John Hammond will open the show and share the stage with the Blind Boys for their song One Kind Favor, also from the upcoming Duets CD. The Blind Boys have teamed up with the Playing For Change Foundation (PFCF) and will help raise awareness and funds for the group by offering concertgoers a copy of the Blind Boys and John Hammonds new CD, photos with the band and John, and the opportunity to attend a meet and greet with the legendary gospel group plus a fellow Grammy (and W.C. Handy) award winner all for a $50 donation to the Playing For Change Foundation (in addition to the ticket price).
PFCF is dedicated to connecting the world through music by providing resources (including but not limited to facilities, supplies, and educational programs) to musicians and their communities around the world. You can find more information at www.playingforchange.com. Jimmy Carter of the Blind Boys said, I really admire the mission of the Playing For Change Foundation. Theyve already opened five schools around the world, with two more scheduled for this year. The Blind Boys are proud to be involved in any way we can.
The song is also the subject of a remix contest, where contestants are invited to upload their reworked version of Perfect Peace to http://www.saguaroroad.com/blog/?page... by October 27th. The winner will receive a copy of the new album, tickets to an upcoming Blind Boys of Alabama concert and will be featured on SaguaroRoad.com.
Duets features three previously unreleased tracks - with Lou Reed, John Hammond and Toots Hibbert - as well as a new song with Timothy B. Schmit of the Eagles that will be simultaneously released on his forthcoming CD. Also included is the audio version of a tune with Marva Wright which, until now, was only available on video on the Blind Boys Live In New Orleans DVD. The album also includes performances with Ben Harper, Randy Travis, Bonnie Raitt, Solomon Burke, Susan Tedeschi, Jars of Clay, Charlie Musselwhite, Asleep At The Wheel, and Dan Zanes. Of the nine previously released tracks on Duets, seven have appeared on Grammy-nominated or Grammy-winning albums. The diverse group of artists that make up Duets reflects the expansive appeal of the group as well as the sweeping reverence for their talent.
