We begin our ten day Icelandic Adventure tour with Titan's VIP Home Departure Service® to London Heathrow, where our airport representatives and official Skycap Porters will assist you with check in for your flight to Reykjavik. On arrival our coach transfers us to our hotel, where the rest of your day is free to make your first discoveries of this bright and colourful capital. Why not visit the beautiful Hallgrims Church or the famous municipal reception house, Hofdi. As evening approaches, we indulge in the first of our tours included seven evening meals at our hotel.
The following day, we depart to Borgarfjordur, renowned for its sweeping green valleys and salmon fishing rivers. We continue over the Holtavorduheidi Plateau to the municipality of Skagafjordur. From here, we journey to Vidimyri to visit an 18th century church built in the traditional turf roof style, before arriving in Akureyri and our hotel for the next two nights.
On the 3rd day, we take a short sightseeing tour of Akureyri, the capital of Northern Iceland. Set within a rich farming area, overlooked by high mountains, Akureyris streets are lined with trees, a mark of the fertile land on which the town is built. Later in the morning we depart for the Lake Myvatn area, surrounded by lava fields, volcanic formations and mountains and famed for its underground caves with geothermal water. After time to explore we continue to Namaskard to view its steam jets and boiling sulphur pits before returning to our Akureyri hotel.
After a restful nights sleep we travel to Tjornes Peninsula and Asbyrgi to view the spectacular horseshoe shaped canyon. Later, we head to Dettifoss, subject to road conditions, to witness the awesome power of one of the mightiest waterfalls in Europe. Continuing our journey in a south easterly direction, we make our way through the interior highland plateau to Egilsstadir, located by the banks of the Lagarfljot River. Being the hub of the region, Egilsstadir prospered as an important centre of the co-operative movement and you will have time to discover its charm before transferring to our nearby overnight hotel.
We journey southwards next, along the rugged and varied coastline of the eastern fjords. We pass many magnificent examples, affording unforgettable views before reaching Almannaskard. On a clear day we enjoy from here a dramatic aspect of the 1000 metres thick Vatnajokull Glacier, the worlds third largest icecap. Take time here to indulge in a truly breathtaking photo opportunity before relocating to our local hotel in Hofn.
Leaving Hofn on the sixth day of our tour, we head along the coast, passing numerous outlet glaciers to Lake Jokulsarlon. We visit the spectacular Skaftafell National Park, a spacious oasis beneath the towering Oraefajokull, the highest of the Icelandic peaks. Within the park we enjoy a varied selection of magnificent scenery including glaciers, lakes, sand plains, tundra heath and birch woodland, a nature lovers paradise. Later we transfer to Kirkjubaejarklaustur and our overnight hotel.
Following a leisurely evening, we depart for a journey across stretches of sand formed by the huge glacial rivers and over the vast Eldhraun lava fields to Skogar to visit the fascinating folk museum. We continue to either Reynishverfi or Dyrholaey headland, the southernmost point of Iceland, where we can visit the delightful nature reserve and from late June onwards witness Dyrholaeys bird sanctuary, following the nesting period. Moving further east we enjoy striking views of the Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull glaciers and pass the pristine Skogarfoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. At the end of a rewarding day, we arrive at our Hveragerdi hotel for dinner.
Prior to reaching our final destination of Reykjavik, we visit a true highlight of our tour, the thermal area of Great Geysir. We then witness Strokkur, constantly spouting a column of water between 65 and 130 feet into the air and home to several smaller hot springs and boiling mud pools. At Gullfoss we visit Icelands best known and arguably most beautiful waterfall, the Golden Falls. This enchanting name is derived from the rainbow that can often be seen at the falls during sunny weather. Later we view Thingvellir, the open air site that housed the meetings of the ancient parliament. Now a national park, it stands on the shores of Icelands largest lake. In the afternoon we return to the capital of Reykjavik for the remainder of our tour.
During your stay in Reykjavik, you will have further free time to explore this enticing city or why not take an optional excursion to the remote country of Greenland, for an exceptionally unique experience.
As the final day of our tour approaches, we transfer to the airport for our scheduled flight to London Heathrow, where our staff will escort you to your Titan transport for your hassle-free journey home.
