Mauser field assembly VZ24 Video
Field assembly of a Czechoslovakian, 1924-1943, VZ24, 8mm, $210, infantry, Mauser Rifle. Removal of all trace of Cosmoline.
Point and case; a 4th grader can take stuff apart, putting things back to gether. Point being, cardboard is the key to a real field strip and assembly. This could be a parking lot, sidewalk anywhere as long as you can find the cardboard.
I got the firearm from aimsurplus.com and a case of spam of 15O steel core FMJ shells, $99 a can to the door. I got the cardboard from the Phila Naval yard.
Ever hear that you should be here, the video doesn't do it justice? Really true this time, Look at the VZ24's on gunbroker, all rusted up, This guns bluing quality is as good as a Browning. The only blemish is the crest was scrubbed off. It might be the reason they are in such good quality shape. I'm getting about 5MOA on my first 2 boxes, open sights, I even did 10 rounds offhand.
Then I stopped cause the barrel was so hot the Hoppes boiled when I cleaned it.
Jrhoney: Very instructive. How did you go about collecting the gasoline after you cleaned the metal parts? I've got a mosin that I have to remove the cosmo from and i don't want to have gasoline all over the sidewalk. (my neighbors like to smoke and talk walks on them) Also, What did you use to get the cosmoline out of the stock?
citationxbjfv: i used brake fluid,,,but it seems that the jet fuel work pretty good,,,,
Jrhoney: and does anyone have a good recommendation for getting cosmoline out of wood with stripping the finish off of it. I dont want to redo the rifle at all. I love thinking that the last time my mosins were cleaned was Berlin 1945 XD
