How To Hack Archos 5 (6th Generation) Video

Using a hack dubbed "Guy Fawkes Hack" by Archilles over at Archosfans.com to successfully Jailbreak an Archos 5 device.

Step By Step Tutorial
Requirements:
1) Linux Live CD such as Ubuntu (I used Backtrack 4)
2) GParted partitioning software
3) USB Thumb Drive
4) DVR or Mini-Dock Station
5) Firmware 1.5.54
6) Guy Fawkes Hack found over at http://www.archosfans.com

sorry for the poor image quality as my camera is broken and all i could use was my MacBook webcam :)

boboty: I personally have never used the 605...i saw it a while back in a Best Buy but it looked cheap i waited it out and now i have the Archos 5. Archos is TERRIBLE with customer service. Everyone knows that. That is why this hack was released. If Archos had simply addressed these issues and fixed them then there wouldn't be a need for this. Plus 20 dollars USD for a plugin is greedy

sukminder246: so when i do thiss what dose it do turn it in to a android like the other archos 5 or i can get the same apps as the archos 5

boboty: no what it does is unlocks all of the plugins for you...and gives you root access to the Archos 5. Maybe later on in development it will get to Android but not yet.

123joker187: I shipped my archos in for warranty repair and they installed the 1.7.04 software. will i be able to use this hack still cuz i heard that you cant downgrade.

boboty: yeah you cant downgrade...yet...just be patient things are happening

hurrycanger: hope to see the hack for 1.7.02 soon. However, how could they make a whole new firmware 1.7.04 for you XD ? On the site the latest firmware is 1.7.02 =D .

punkonjunk: I'm glad I didn't hold my breath, but dear god, this is amazing to finally see. Wish I hadn't spent 20 bucks on plug-ins! Does this also work on the archos 7? My 5's screen cracked and my battery dock is being stupid with not charging or working well and instead of fixing the bastard I might just go right ahead and get a 7. Is there a dock for the 7?

boboty: yes there is a dock...and yes it works. i still bought the plugins after doing this hack...although this hack does allow for free plugins it is not the main goal...stickin it to the man yah digg?
