robmasterman: Ha..ha..good on you Kev, hope you're still enjoying chasing them, being married shouldn't be a barrier you know :o) Bob
zombiesonacid: Thanks for posting this. It really cheered up my day!
robmasterman: Thanks very much Steve for your kind comment...Bob
T3DSK1: worked out of Aberbeeg Jnct in the early 70`s brought a tear to the old eyes thnx Rob
robmasterman: Thanks very much for your kind comments and I'm so pleased that it brought back some happy memories to you...Were you based at Aberbeeg or did you come under Ebbw Vale? .Bob
T3DSK1: Bob I think we were a satelite of Ebbw Junction at this time as the old loco sheds from the steam days had been sold on . The time I was there we had 5-37s and 2- 08s ,we were working coal from the various collieries around the local area which went to Ebbw Vale steelworks ,Llanwern Steelworks and sometimes to Margam yard for Port Talbot Steelworks.Iron ore was worked from Newport docks off the old Monmouthshire Bank sidings to Ebbw Vale steelworks until steel making was ended
robmasterman: Oh good old days....I remember it all well as I worked in Marland House from 1965 until 1974...Bob
T3DSK1: That name rings a bell but I cant remember what for, area managment offices /headquarters perhaps ?. Another thing is I can`t honestly remember 37s having a nickname, I remember we did call them sixty sixes from the loco numbers system in use 6600 >6900 .The other loco`s of the period were Westerns,Warships,Hymeks which were in the process of being scrapped and 47s were known as Sulzers or 1500s .The funny thing was in those days the raiways didn`t seem to make money but worked now its a joke
robmasterman: Marland House was the Divisional Manager's Office in Central Square Cardiff, I do have two videos containg still images from the sixties and seventies in my YouTube collection is you're interested...Bob
T3DSK1: Bob I think i`ve seen one of the photo compilations I would like to see the other one thanks for your efforts Kind regards Ted
simonpilk: I recall that Class 37's were known by a number of drivers as '68s' for that reason. I remember working in Swindon Control as late as 1990 and the Traffic Assistant at Swansea (Jim Lewis, Top Man!) asking a driver if he was 'alright for a '68' rather than a 47 as we were short of power...
robmasterman: You're quite right Simon, they were indeed referred to as 68's by many railway staff...Bob
T3DSK1: hi yes you are both right soon as i saw this it clicked straight away tnx. I was never a great fan of the steam age as listening to the stories of the drivers and firemen it was a physical job and a lot of them were not sorry to see the back of the steam days thanks again Ted
peggey707: just last week i saw a double 175 running through that middle road! oh how times have cahnged!
robmasterman: 20 years is a long time Peggey, Thanks for your comment...Bob
EWS60500: great bob, but why was 37699 working north toward tower with loaded hoppers
robmasterman: It would have been going to the Phurnacite Plant at Aberamman...Bob
DownGrand1967: Almost a Golden Era for railway loco's !
robmasterman: I remember them when brand new and that was pretty special, never to be repeated I'm afriad,,,Bob
DOCTORDROTT: Hello Bob,worked on all those locos shown. Its not the same now working on freight engines. The fun has gone out of the job.Brings back memories of happy days at Canton. One of its good fitters was buried today. RIP Alwyn
robmasterman: Thanks Martyn, and sad news about Alwyn..Bob
britishbulldog5505: Excellent video thanks for posting!
robmasterman: Thanks Sam, glad you enjoyed it...Bob
zombiesonacid: Did'nt 37699 get repainted into Trainload Coal livery at somepoint?
robmasterman: This livery was applied in 1985 and I have no record that although allocated to various coal sectors that it carried the Trainload Coal Livery...Bob
