Ares 1-Y Animation Video

NASA is planning the Ares 1-Y test flight for 2014, just 1 year before the Orion's first manned mission to the International Space Station. It will use an actual 5 segment SRB derived from the shuttle solid rocket motor as well as an actual 2nd stage but a dummy second stage engine and a dummy Orion capsule. The Launch Abort System tower (LAS tower) is real and NASA wants to test the high altitude capability of the LAS Tower to pull the Orion off the "stick" in case of an emergency. The Ares 1-Y test flight will be an unmanned mission.

FunJr: Wish I could have found this video on the NASA website. Had to do a Google search for Ares 1-Y. Animator has a real sense of humor using a replica of the helicopter that recovered the Apollo capsules! Thanks!
