TheOregonRedneck: what a piece of shit get a new battery mate before you get stranded =)
abyssunderground: Wasn't the original fan engine driven? That's probably why, as an idling engine can't keep up with those fans running. Petrol alternators put out less than a diesel too. Mine has to put out at least 40A at idle to cope with the glow plugs running after a cold start. They run for about 3 minutes after a start from cold. I can put everything in the car on when cold and the battery will begin to drain, but a little rev up from 1000rpm to 1500rpm brings the charge current high enough again.
V8Jagnut: lol. thats why i have the pack with me all the time. :)
V8Jagnut: yep but with a v8 auto that idles at 600 you have no chance. i charge it 1 time a week in summer but the battery has bean boiled and a 51'c day so im lucky it works.lol.
abyssunderground: Well you could always up the idle but then you would have to be careful of the auto box rolling away when not accelerating =) Still, never a good idea I suppose. You could always just run a single fan or run them at half speed. That might help. Or, get a higher rating alternator that gives more power at lower RPM (or re-gear it for higher RPM but it might stall the engine at idle).
V8Jagnut: oww thats not the original engine. but it did have a fixed fan with the V12 like the one in that vid i did on changing the fans.
V8Jagnut: yep. charging 1 time a week is good. thats the price you pay to have excellent A/C and 660W of headlight power.lmao
TheOregonRedneck: i have a military gel battery for my v8 :) never lets me down..
Jasons1487: what beeps on youre jag after you crank for to long?
V8Jagnut: its the radio. and im not cranking for to long
Jasons1487: I should have worded it different I just remember quite a while back when you were trying to do a cold start in that jag on petrol it would beep after a bit of cranking. i was just wondering if you had some kind of audible low oil pressure indicator or anything.
jmoyet: hehe iv been there before in winter days with a flat battery in the morning after a deep overnight freeze.
