How to Pick up Your Motorcycle... like a girl Video
And, frankly, how to drop it like a girl.
This is in the "how to and style" category, because not only do I demonstrate how-- I do it with style.
I have over 11,000 miles on 2 wheels, and this is my most serious incident yet. I ride safe and do my best to keep it shiny side up. But, mistakes happen. Hopefully, I am the sort who learns from them.
The best I can figure, my rear tire went nut-zo on the rocks, and I in turn when a little nut-zo on the front brake. I think. I don't remember grabbing it, but it wouldn't have taken much, with my back tire already losing traction and the front tire already turned slightly... Glancing down as it happened certainly didn't help. Target fixation FTW! It's everything I know not to do, and everything I practice and drill not to do... *sigh*
Any questions?
sumdawgtwigg: sorry to see you two go down, but at least neither of you were hurt.
icharm425: sorry to see you go down... outside of falling you handled it well.... kill switch , kick stand standing it up and your baby barely got scratched :) .... GOOD JOB & GOOD VIDEO
theSMYRNAcowboy: Very good technique on how to pick your bike up. Sorry you had to drop him. I have dropped ALF 3 times. Yes, it does suck. My bike weights 538 dry.
complex5150: VERY GOOD JOB!! you made picking up your bike look easy. Nice vid.
complex5150: oops and I ment to ask if you were alright. very impressed with your skills.
AkornRider: Glad to see everything was alright, and that you weren't too proud not to post this. I've come close to dropping the bike 3 times, and I know one of these days it is going to happen! Nice tips on what to do when the inevitable happens!
spieterman: Thank you for posting this...very helpful.
zx6roy: just be glad its not a liter bike, you would need 2 people to stand it up. good job!!
Anticitizen419: great reaction LJ to be quick on the kill switch. not only that whole pick up procedure was by the book. kudos. only when you get your self in a similar situation again allow you carbs to level up fuel supply. turn the key in start position and the kill switch on. then wait couple of seconds (half a minute at least) and then press the ignition button up to 5-6 seconds in one try.
lobo3003: taz bien pendejoooooo jaaaaaaaaaaa
LEXPIX: All things considered, ya came away pretty unscathed, oh, and the bike too. Good news is that now you have your crash out of the way.
lauriejennifer: There was a lot about the restart that was edited out for time. Opening the throttle helped, too, along with your suggestions.
mediaphobia: Wow you make it look so easy! I've tried picking my bike up that way (and frontways), but I suck at powerlifting. *sigh* As lame as it is, I'm glad I can pull the girl card and have someone help me! haha
TQueen: I just bought my first bike a few weeks ago and I'm 5'2, 105 pounds. It's a bit too tall and I've dropped it several times already! I know how you're feeling! I've managed to pick it up a few times on my own but I usually need help. You talk to your bike just like I do haha... glad I'm not the only one.
Spencerian: Sorry Laurie... I'm trying not to giggle... We've all been there. I can't remember how many times I've dropped the bike. I must have done that a dozen or so times... Trust me, get frame sliders... because when you swear you'll never drop the bike again, it'll happen. Anyways, with all the gravel roads over there, that means you'll become a really awesome rider.
94Ponyboy: I've done that alot on my dad's dirtbike. You just laid it down. I've only crashed on quads though haha.
MCBaritone: agreed! Frame sliders have saved my ass SOOOO many times.
heqqmela: gosh, i'm glad you did'nt do much damage. I speak to my bike too lol. I hope that when my turn comes to drop the bike, it would be in front of you,so maybe i can get an affectionate hug too :)
lauriejennifer: Haha! +1 for adding a cheesy "pick-up" line! (pun intended)
lauriejennifer: Yeah, good thing there was no more forward momentum to match the downward momentum! Hope you weren't hurt in those quad crashes! Those can be nasty... I've had friends seriously hurt crashing in a quad.
94Ponyboy: Oh yeah, quad crashes get can be pretty gnarly! The ones I've gotten didn't injure me much, only one got somewhat serious! I was riding my dad's TRX450 (a VERY fast quad) and i was in 4th gear at Probecito, and It wasn't too straight, but the rear right tire hit a fairly big rock and the quad flipped on top of me for about 2 seconds then it flipped back on its wheels and rolls into some bushes. There were shredded flour plants and cacti on me, ended with a scar on my knee and my back!
MetalCanyon: That was really unlucky, yet lucky at the same time. It's nice to see there was minimal damage to her (him? :p) but what's even more important, you didn't fall over and caught your leg underneath it! Glad to see you're okay. I've had a similar experience when I've bought my bike (used). I've stopped to make a quick call. Long story, but the guy forgot to charge the battery and it wouldn't restart. Ended up dropping it and breaking the clutch lever, 15km from home. :) Ride safe!
naythCC: If you flood a carb bike, just roll it back and forward in gear with the clutch in. (: Usually works. Sad to see. Good job picking it up. :D
hgallegos915: glad you are ok, is that a 250? I wonder what I will do when my 600 falls... imma die... :( im a newbie rider btw
SpiaggiaVita: I thought you killed it until I realized the bike was still running while on the ground. That seems to be the easiest way to drop one. Either way, you got lucky. I dropped mine in a similar situation except I killed mine. I too only received minor scuffs on the bar end mirror, exhaust and brake lever. That was my only one to date and I know now to be extremely careful at slow speeds.
