Sheila Holt Orstead II Video

Sheila describes her journey to environmental justice activism starting with discovering that her family in Dickson Tennessee was largely afflicted with cancer and later learned that she also had developed Stage 2 breast cancer. From here Sheila went down an investigative path to find that racism was at the root of differential access to a clean water supply after the contamination of well water by a neighboring landfill was revealed. She describes what she is doing now to address this injustice, including working with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund on a law suit as well as publicizing this situation along with that of other communities facing similar challenges nationwide.
