Please click the HQ-button under the video! "The Masochism Tango" is now REPUBLISHED to celebrate a lot of video views for the first version published to YouTube. Why? Well, to offer the song in slightly better quality. The old version is still on the channel. This song is a typical Tom Lehrer original comment and it will live forever. It really is a timeless gem!

In 1998 Lehrer hosted a radio show on BBC Radio 2, stating that he was inspired to write "The Masochism Tango" after hearing Tony Martin singing a song called "Kiss of Fire". You can hear Lehrer talking about the song here:

There is a YouTube version of "Kiss of Fire" with Frankie Laine available here:

In 2008 Lehrer said "OK" to "The Tom Lehrer Wisdom Channel", as long as the performance is not altered and as long as it's free in the YouTube flash video format. Do NOT ask for any video originals, ever again. The twelve songs -- from a forgotten Ampex video recording -- were never commercially available on home video, VHS or DVD. Since this is a free and legal ride, please spread the word! Send the video url to your friends!

Click on the Lehrer icon and visit the channel's front page. The channel is Lehrer only. And here is a link to the channel's support page:

Antibaryon: Great song!
6funswede: Antibaryon, thank you! Send the video url to your friends, this is rare (American) comedy history. To all viewers; also use the HQ-button and read the video description :-)
AkimotoUchiha: i'll send this song to my friends thanks for the upload
6funswede: AkimotoUchiha, thanks, I appreciate that. Look, this is important for you to know: I'm an unpaid hacker here, and the channel is non-commercial. My payoff is just to preserve American comedy history on video. Tell your friends to tell their friends...
Kairoslibertad: c'est manifique!
rcevey2: I love Tom Lehrer. He's able to be deviant without going in to gross, while being timelessly funny.
mars200125: Brilliant!
JhericFury: Tom Lehrer: A Musical Genius, an hilarious Satirist and well before his time. If he created these nowadays he'd be world famous, i wonder if that would have been better or worse for him?
6funswede: JhericFury, it depends on who you ask. If you ask me, I'd say that a more famous Tom Lehrer would be a healthy corrective to all the madness going on. But if you ask Tom Lehrer he'd probably say that he would'nt want that kind of fame. But check out the twelve songs on the channel in the HQ-versions, and promote some free American comedy history on video to your friends :-)
casinobowling: This song is WAAAAY better when he sings it with a FULL ORCHESTRA! And not just with the piano! The Orchestrated version should be up here 6funswede and NOT the plain piano version!!!!!!
6funswede: casinobowling, er enig i at orkesterversjonen er musikalsk bedre, men den finnes ikke som film/video. Denne kanalen handler BARE om ekstremt sjeldne videoopptak :-)
crazypianolady: Perfect comedic timing and piano playing! True legend. I can also see Hugh Laurie playing this haha
briandjusforever: WOW...A genius of his time, and cute to boot! LOL. Like I told my friends, if only I had been around in the 1960's!!
monello198: SUCH GENIUS.. my idol ;-}~
marycigarettes: now i know where you get it from mikee..i'd never heard of this chap......i love it
monello198: I was brought up listening to him.. my father played his "an evening wasted with" album constantly... i am word perfect on every song.. please take the time to appreciate him.. ;-}~ allow me the pleasure of sending you a few of my favourites
roadbiketraveller: Childhood memories of knowing every word but not really understanding them 'til much later on......... thanks for making me smile this evening.x.
LefthandDavey: Fantastic!......Always enjoy a bit of Lehrer.....Davey.
TINMANschannel: loved it,,,, , never heard of him ,is there room for two Mikee's on youtube ,,LOL
tps607: poisoning pigeons in the park...practical too
sproutcentral: Thanks Mikee...I see what you mean.
bigbeninjax: TOO much fun! Great find, Mikee.
Inuaang27: Hi 6funswede, if you don't remember, I had asked you a couple of months ago if this song had an intro. You then responded to me, which I didn't expect. What I really didn't expect is that you would re-post the video with the intro. I know I'm not significant enough to be the only reason why you would post this, but I still wanted to thank you for doing so. Thank you.
6funswede: You're significant enough!
tsukinohime3: O___O'' I'm scared now...
