Coyote has a message for taggers. Video
Coyote cleans the community directory board he helped to erect as a volunteer.
electrofemme1: I got the part where it rhymed with tagger, and the whole "sucking on each other's spray cans" thing, and I understand how upsetting tagging is-- especially for someone who has to clean it. But really? Maybe I'm being oversensitive, but since when was a term for someone who practises vandalisation synonymous with (an often derogatory) term for someone is homosexual? I don't get the connection... I don't tag, but I'm what one might consider to be a fag. Fill me in here. :)
TheCoyotespeaks: I apologize if my method of creating a visual image of these cads has offended -no offense was intended.
electrofemme1: Thank you for the apology... And yeah, I definitely got the imagery--there's a great flow to the way you speak, but I just wondered why it was at the expense of sounding homophobic. But otherwise, Great videos...
TheCoyotespeaks: In hindsight, I could have been a more delicate about how I created the imagery, but then, I think no matter how I tried, someone, somewhere would have been offended. -Which is the whole point of a rant S...
electrofemme1: I think you're right. I think there would probably be a bunch of people who twould call tagging "freedom of expression", or perhaps "Long live tagging, down with these establishments"...or something else that's completely inane. You can't please everyone (and why should you)--especially when ranting...I hear homophobic slurs and the like on a near daily basis due to ignorance and unacceptance, and although I have the feeling that you're probably not even homophobic, yourself, sometimes I do find
electrofemme1: it necessary to speak out on behalf of the lgbtq community. But back to the subject at hand of tagging, you mentioned that you're the president of Kensington community (or something to that effect). Are there any initiatives, other than your own indicated in this video, to clean up Kensington and remove the tagging? I'd love to know more about that....
TheCoyotespeaks: One of my initiatives is to prevent the city from threatening fines to businesses who have graffiti art that they don't mind being on the edifice of their shops. Another is a $ allotment to clean tags with paint-overs. And most recently, I have asked for a quote form Goodbye-Graffiti for the cleaning of the boards, to be followed by a new coating of a highly toxic anti-graffiti chemical compound. And while I usually go as all-natural and lgbtq-friendly as humanly possible, a coating will help.
electrofemme1: That seems like a pretty balanced plan. I pretty confident that Toronto Hydro has a department that deals with graffiti on their property-- it might be irrelevant, but at the same time it might help in covering as many tagged areas as possible. It's a shame that we have to use highly toxic chemical compounds to clean up these messes. I wish taggers would consider the environmental consequences their actions have on this community as well. :( Bummer.
TheCoyotespeaks: Yep... A well tended garden (God willing) reaps a harvest... A poorly tended garden creates more work for all involved...
