Nicks POV.
I pluck the guitar strings absently. It feels a lot tenser around here without Brooke and Joe, yet I feel like theyre safer.
Nicholas, what are you playing? Mom asks from across the room. I look up from the instrument in my hand. I sigh.
Nothing, really I admit.
It sounded really nice, sweetheart, Mom says with an encouraging smile. I smile back half-heartedly and look back at my guitar. I know I used to write songs without Summer by my side, but now it feels like theres nothing important to write about now that shes not by my side. I rub my forehead tiredly and sigh again. I feel so bad for Summers dad. He looks like I assume I did up until today. He came in a couple of hours ago and has now locked himself in his room all alone. I feel tears stinging my eyes again, but I force them down. I refuse to cry; Summer is going to be okay. I put the guitar down and get up.
Kev, can I talk to you? I ask him from across the room. He looks up from Molly and nods.
Give me a second, he requests. I nod and wait patiently. He whispers something to Molly that makes her giggle, then kisses her. He gets off of the bed and walks over to me.
Whats up? he asks me. He pushes his hands deep into his pockets.
Can we talk somewhere else? I ask quietly. I look into Kevins eyes and see a spark of concern appear.
Of course he agrees immediately.
Mom, were going to talk in the other room, okay? Kevin double checks.
Of course. Keep an eye on each other, she says carefully. Kevin nods. We walk out of the hotel room and I immediately feel a little bit better.
Did you feel that same relief when you walked out of that room? Kevin asks me. I look at him and smile a small smile.
Yeah, I did I chuckle lightly.
What did you want to talk about? Kevin asks me after a moment of silence.
Im not quite sure But I figured that since I always come to you for advice, it might work now, too I admit. Kevin puts his hand on my shoulder and squeezes it.
Nick, you know how much I love you. And I want to help you more than I want to do anything in the world. But theres really not much I can do for you right now, Kevin says sadly.

Can I ask you something, Nick? Kevin asks. I nod.
I think youre holding up amazingly today. I admire your positive attitude since the phone call. I dont think Id be able to handle myself as well as you are Im proud of you, Nick, Kevin concludes. I smile at him. All my life even though I act older than I am most of the time Ive looked up to Kevin. Of course I have, hes my older brother. But hearing this, coming from someone I admire It really means a lot.
Thank you, Kevin, that really means a lot, I tell him.
Any time Anything else you wanted to talk about? I shake my head.
No I think Im good, thanks You want to go back? I imagine its hard to leave Molly at a time like this
Its okay, man. Youre my priority at the moment. Plus, it feels all stiff in there. A walk is good for the both of us, Kevin chuckles. He punches my shoulder and I smile. We continue to walk down the hall. Its a pleasurable silence until a teary-eyed girl turns the corner. I nudge Kevin nervously. Im thinking messed-up-two-thirds of Jonas isnt going to be great publicity.
I see her, Kevin whispers. Were about to slip around another corner, but the girl catches us right before we can.
Kevin? Nick? she calls out. I sigh and put on a smile.
Yes, thats us, Kevin admits politely. The girl rushes over. I see now that shes not teary-eyed, but shes crying. I instantly feel protective of her.
Oh my gosh. I meet Kevin and Nick Jonas, and Im crying, she chuckles darkly, through her tears. Just my luck.
Dont worry about that. Are you okay? I ask, concern in my words. She has the same eyes as Summer. A stab of pain goes through my heart but I try to ignore it.
I um Yeah, Im fine. I can tell shes lying by the way her eyes flicker nervously.
You sure? Kevin checks. The girl suddenly breaks down in sobs and collapses onto the floor. I kneel down and do something uncharacteristic for me; I take her in my arms. Kevin stares at me, his mouth slightly open. His phone rings right at that moment. He picks up. I start to stroke the girls hair soothingly. Kevin hangs up the phone and looks at me.

Actually, I don't think he's doing anything wrong but the first mistake he did was compare her to Summer.
