I created this animation for a T.V. pilot I am making called The Institute. I made the text in Photoshop, putting each letter into a separate layer. I did this so that the letters could be adjusted easier in After effects. I saved this and imported it into After effects. I used the glow effects and changed the colour to make it look as thought the text was on fire. I also blurred it as the text is whooshing in to make it look more real. I made it sharper once the text had settled in. To make the letters whoosh in erratically I key framed each letter on the 3D axis until they aligned accordingly at the end of the title sequence.
