Bless the Lord (studio version with bass) Video
Written and performed by Randy Chester (which I'm) with Mackenzie (my awesome wife) on harmony vocals. This version has bass, as you may notice. Casey Giessen recorded us @ Whirling Dervish in the Atlanta area. I added bass later, though I'm not thrilled with the tone. But it is what it is. Hope u like it. I still intend to re-record it w/drums.
I wrote this song as a prayer and to encourage myself in the Lord, as one must often do in this life. The psalmist David also did this often. It was he whose beautiful words and imagery I borrowed for the lyrics (see Psalms 103 and 139). He is one of my favorite musicians, though I've never heard a single note. He must have been an amazing musician to be hired as the King's court singer and musician when he was still a youth. He went on to write countless psalms, invented several kinds of instruments to be used in worship to God, and established a praise band made up 288 singers and 4000 musicians on harps, stringed instruments, cymbals, trumpets, etc. who worshiped God around the clock, taking shifts, for 33 years and who continued to do so during his son Solomon's reign. It must have been awesome for those who were blessed to hear "the sweet psalmist of Israel" sing his songs to God. I hope that one day in Heaven I'll be able to hear David's version of his Psalms, especially these two and #23.
