Tuli Kupferberg Too Poor for Welfare Video

Though Welfare was designed as a program to provide financial aid for needy persons, the laws were framed with residence requirements so that the homeless poor were not eligible. Neither were those without the literacy or mental competence to fill out forms and negotiate the bureaucracy.

medicinesocks: yup. the applications are so draconian, and the office workers, it seems, do their level best to discourage even the people who have managed to fill em out & get all the damn documentation together from receiving any kind of assistance. on top of that there's the social stigma of poverty, you're no good in the good ole usa unless you mass produce & mass consume! poverty is a crime in this country!
