Dartmouth Professor on the rise of "birthers" and "tea party goers" Video
Donald E. Pease, the Director of The Futures of American Studies Institute, explains how President Obama can regain ground he's lost to birthers, tea party organzers, and death panelists and reclaim the "state fantasy." Pease is the author of The New American Exceptionalism, published in October by the University of Minnesota Press. He is a Professor of English, the Avalon Foundation Chair of the Humanities, and Director of the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program at Dartmouth College.
DadAspen: Well said and I get the point, but it's hard to listen to knowing that even intelligent people have a hard time breaking away from the dogma of liberalism. I hope your plan fails at swaying people the wrong way.
lfan09: You are out there Professor. Grassroots, yes, Activists, no. This movement has nothing to do with the war on Terror but rather an infinite desire to substantially and unapollegetically undo what your guy is doing to "our" country.
GoodbyeAmericanDream: How is it possible to become a professor with such poor comprehension of current events and culture? The Tea Party Movement, like any large protest group, is extremely diverse. So-called birthers are also diverse. Some have generalized anger. Some are specifically opposed to certain policies. Some are concerned that the constitution has been violated. To comprehend this group as a homogenous, manipulative, deluded mass of people is completely wrong. This man has nothing to teach.
powerbookg: "Teabaggers?!" You do know what that means, right?
smcclennen: Important argument for how Obama can reclaim the public sphere.
lfan09: This is just plain nonsense. How can Dartmouth have this posted on their homepage and think it wouldn't be offensive to the MAJORITY of Americans? Given the Professor's loose grip on reality, I think it would be entertaining for my son to go to this institution and run circles around this guy. Teach tolerance Professor, and make yourself your first student! Professor - There are many of us in the Tea Party movement -- look out in 2010 and 2012 when the country is taken back, Reagan style.
lfan09: huh? Without ACORN, Liberals will never again be elected to Office.
powerbookg: Thank you for improving the title here and on the homepage. It's much more sensible now. Regards.
