Voyager - Resolutions Review Video
Opinionated Voyager Episode Guide looks at Resolutions, yet another Jeri Taylor story about Captain Janeway. It's about as easy to stomach as a tall glass of syrup filled with sugar cubes. Also watch Harry and Tuvok fight for pretty much no reason.
adef187: Janeway Pie FTW.
DeHerg: @SFDebris: you asked which kind of Virus develop that make People not sick(or kill) when it is in his natural Environment. Well... only the best adapted do that. Because when(as a Virus) your Host doesn't get well or even dies you missed an Opportunity to spread to more Hosts. Its a general Misunderstanding that the most lethal Viruses are the most advanced(to their Environment), the Opposite is the case
MattinNC74: Remember the original series The Omega Glory where a ship crew picks up a virus and gets sick after leaving a planet? This virus could be like that one, except the cures were very different.
Deadxman616: the only thing missing in tolvok's room is some Al Green playing in the background
groupthinker1984: Thats a form the Mary Sue can take, and its the most common one, but the term applies to a wider variety of characters as the Wikipedia definition indicates.
mjbull1565: From the critiques of "Voyager" I've seen, the problem was the writer's were overly proud that they made Janeway a woman, but were afraid she would not be accepted by the fans because of it. So they thought that giving hers flaws and doubts about her actions would undermine her authority, so they went overboard and did not give her any. Janeway failed as a character because the writers did not have enough faith in their audience.
mjbull1565: You have a point, but the question is: By waht possible mechanism would the virus kill you just because you are off it's homeworld?
DeHerg: my best guess: there is a chemical Compound in the Air of that Planet that you ingest thru breathing and which the Virus needs for its Selfregulationsystem. If you go of world, the Eviromentalsystem of you Ship provides you with Air but not that Compound->the Regulationsystem of that Virus fails->you and the Virus die
sfdebris: "Something in the planet's environment is shielding you from the effects of the virus." I'm not referring to the virulence of the virus, but to its apparent inertness within its own environment. After all, unless it was fully shut down the Doctor would be making a potentially fatal mistake allowing them to just be left behind if it's something that is merely asymptomatic and not completely inert - far riskier than the stasis idea he rejected on the off chance of stasis failure.
Maximara: Again I must refer to "Omega Glory" which had very similar concept but handled it in a far more intelligent manner. In that case the environment had properties that protected people from the diseases but it took time to build up.
Maximara: Well "Miri" set the stage for that when the writers had the enterprise find another Earth literally. They did try to explain it in "Bread and Circuses" with Hodgkin's Law...and promptly forgot Hodgkin's Law in "Patterns of Force."
Tseuhadon: It has to be said, I did like the storm. Let's face it, it's a storm which impossibly creates earthquakes and seems entirely focused upon taking down Janeway. I don't know about you, but I think it looks as if god himself lost patience and attempted to end Voyager there and then.
QuartuvLarry: Oh, please PLEASE don't blaspheme Loreena McKennitt by putting her music to Voyager! When I listen to her, I don't WANT to think about things like Voyager!!!
JOtruba: Wich god? Q , whorehole alliens( using future version of MS Windows) or anny of the otrhers? p.s. i know its wormhole but i do nt really like the twist that Sisco becomes one of those people
Tseuhadon: Considering how bad this ep was, probably all of them. Or more likely Q considering what Voyager did to him.
GeneralBolas: I think the point of the Tuvok vs. the world thing was to murder the Vulcans yet again. Because Tuvok cared about Janeway so much, yet logic would not allow him to come to her aid, he got testy with people making such suggestions. See? Enterprise was *not* the first show to screw up the Vulcans.
RadarKat73080: OMD! This is the Omega Glory!
Deadxman616: hmmm let see endanger the ship to save two people. one of them resposiable for them to be stuck there. Or follow orders from his captain and freind to get this ship of fools home. if only there was a saying for this. ah yes, The needs of the many out weight the needs of the few.
kjg28: Didn't have flaws? In "Latent Image" Janeway was set on erasing the Doc's memory until Seven convinced her she was wrong; in "Night" we see that Janeway carries tremendous guilt about stranding the crew and falls into a deep depression; in "Equinox" her anger drives her to go after Captain Ransom despite the danger she puts everyone else in; and in the finally Admiral Janeway destroys an entire timeline to bring voyager home earlier. You can't say she's not flawed...
kjg28: But ALL of the captains had comparable flaws...Does anyone remember Picard's vengeful fury at the Borg in "First Contact?" These flaws humanize the captains, and make them realistic. AND Janeway certainly had her share of them.
1mPeRcEpTiBlE: Captain Janeway was flawed not as a character depicting a human being, but from poor writing. Trek's other captains for the most part had an Achilles heel, but it remained consistent with what we knew of the character, it was planned out,and frequently worked to serve the story in a relevant manner rather than having a character flaw there for the sake of it. Janeway's may had flaws, but they were tacked on for kicks and remained inconsistent with what we knew of her making her unrealistic.Or mad
kjg28: I think you may be right about the inconsistencies...
cheesetothepower: For all we know, the people cleaning up after the storm gods could have run away.
groupthinker1984: I think you're off in your interpretation of Janeway's ego in trying to cure something the doctor couldn't cure. I think Tuvok left that equipment for her as an act of mercy knowing his friend would go crazy if she didn't have at least a chance to occupy her time trying to figure out her problem. Of all the Captains, she is the scientist, its the take that works best with her. And the show doesn't let her figure it out. The Doctor does. Chakotay plays the voice of reason. Its as good as he got
HiroshiMizushima: I'm just gonna go on record saying that no matter how bad she was in this series, I still found Janeway very attractive in this episode. I think it was something about her letting her hair down. It made her seem younger and less like the super bitch she often is in the show.
