Addicted is the second of four planned albums by The Devin Townsend Project, a project of Canadian musician Devin Townsend. The album is Townsend's eleventh album overall, and is due to be released November 17, 2009. The album was written and produced by Townsend, and features Ryan Van Poederooyen, Brian Waddell, Mark Cimino, and Anneke van Giersbergen.
Addicted is the second of four albums in the Devin Townsend Project series, each featuring a different lineup and theme. Addicted was written and produced by Townsend. The album features vocals by Townsend along with Anneke van Giersbergen, a former member of Dutch band The Gathering. Brian Waddell and Ryan Van Poederooyen of the former Devin Townsend Band will be playing bass and drums, respectively, while Mark Cimino will be playing guitar alongside Townsend. Recording for the album began May 6, 2009.
According to Townsend, Addicted will be an album of "melodic" and "danceable" music, but will be "much heavier" than his previous albums with The Devin Townsend Band. Townsend has compared the album's songwriting to his more accessible songs, such as "Life" from Ocean Machine: Biomech (1997), "Stagnant" from Terria (2001), and "Material" from Physicist (2000). The album's production style was directly influenced by Nickelback's 2008 album Dark Horse.[8][9] Townsend has quipped that "Some parts of it sound like Meshuggah, some parts of it sound like Boney M."[8] Addicted will include a new version of the song "Hyperdrive" from Townsend's 2007 album Ziltoid the Omniscient with lead vocals by van Giersbergen, who has performed a cover of the song with her current band Agua de Annique.
The album will be released on Townsend's independent label, HevyDevy Records. The album will feature art by Travis Smith, who did the album art for Townsend's previous albums Terria, Accelerated Evolution, and Ziltoid the Omniscient. On October 27th, Townsend posted the track "Bend It Like Bender!" on his MySpace page. On October 31st, the whole album leaked on the internet.

LYRICS:

As everything in life, comes together now
I need your mind
And everything is light, I remember now
I see you rise.
And all the lonely things, seem to want to change
I'll sleep on it tonight.
Ih-ah!!
We don't even understand
Something's going on
We don't even understand
So how could this be wrong...ah!
Ih-ah!
I'm so in love with you
...how could I?
Ever be untrue.
Am I with you?
With everything I do.
God I love you.
I love you...
We don't even understand
Something's going on
We don't even understand
So how could we be wrong
We don't know or care
Somethings always there
We see it's in own our hands,
But we just don't understand.

dimuuborgir999: @TheAbuteh i have heard there music and i dont like it and devin plays much more then prog metal and you should know that remember Ziltiod i dont think that was much of a prog metal record and as is stands devin makes WAY better music then any of the bands touring and addicted was really wasn't much of a prog metal record either or KI and deconstruction is suppose to be his heavyest music to date but yes prog metal is alot of dev's music. and i wouldn't call it prog metal i just call it music
bokma7: so beautiful...
88askolds88: Simply amazing!!!
Mikuji: @ViperRob42 completely in agreement with you there, first thing i thought when I heard it was 'nice U2 riff'. Brilliant song, and while I still prefer Ziltoid because it's just pure silly gleeful fun, Ki and Addicted are fantastic albums, and i'm really looking forwards to the next two (thousand). Criminal that so few people get to experience Devin.
Harrysound: wow im impressed...and inspired
gocsa: People really should buy this album, to support Devin, he deserves it so much more than virtually any pop artist around today.
alreadytaken334: Yeah.
MrShishkebab: this sounds so much like it should be top the charts but at the same time has that unusual inspiring devin sound :)
melodiousMO: youtube viral traffic can do it for random amateurs, so it can also happen for devin townsend <3 ;)
TheAbuteh: @dimuuborgir999 I know Devin is a great composer, but when it comes to what he'll probably be playing with BTBAM, STS, and Cynic, I think the spot they're playing at is just fine, I mean, come on, it's better than if they decided to put in Amon Amarth or something, a group that has no place on a "prog metal" tour. I do agree with you though, he doesn't write music in genres, unless that genre is just straight music (which goes for BTBAM too.)
moonsnake42: dimuuborgir999, i'm sorry but you just have absolutely no idea what the fuck you are talking about. but at least you realize that you are just stating an opinion. and that was mine. peace and love.
sirenique: This is probably my favorite song off of Devin's new album for a lot of personal reasons, but also because it's absolutely mesmerizing and beautiful. I can't wait for his other albums, especially Ghost :)
meshugganaut: This man is above and beyond
theinfamouslu: im sorry guys devin townsend has so much more potential then this. This is soo generic its sad. It seriously depresses me that strapping young lad is no more. he had so much more potential as a vocalist in a band like that then this rave nonsense. Hes an inspiring vocalist, but this isnt the devin townsend I knew and loved. what a waste.
rutledge123: ...he matured in nature, listen to an interview post syl this is what he wants to create for the time being but if your more into his harder stuff, hisnext cd under this project is said to be the heaviest stuff he has ever recorded, so stfu and enjoy it quit complaining
TheRealFatassFilms: not true, shitfister. This is far more artistic and creative than most of the stuff he's made. This song is wonderful, and the concept of him having more potential as a vocalist is inane, because his voice is nothing short of incredible in this song. It's not all about the heavy with Devin, which is what makes him such a better artist than most out today. He's made a few songs like this (more mellow, inspirational) and they always turn out to be my favorite (like "Triumph")
dying8: very emotional song...after many drinks. Seems a little too short maybe? Oh well, I love it!
Kaoaron12: Whats really a waste is your comment.Considering that Devvy has been playing for the past 20 years or so, we know what kind of potential he has. If you ever watched an interview with him, after being in SYL for so long he got tired of it, an needed a counter balance for all the noise. I love Devin's music, weather it's metal, or this mellow new age stuff, he is an amazing composer.
TheRealFatassFilms: Nah, it's inspirational without drinks too. I mean, you've gotta consider it was written and recorded cpmpletely sober, so you know...works without the drinks too.
LasgarnStudios: Shhh InfamousLu. Idiotic comment. He's been going for years and the comment about "vocalist" is pretty insulting as he is one of the best metal vocalist about and the fact that he is a great guitarist in all his bands. Quit looking at one side and saying its a missed opportunity because as far as Devin and the fans are concerned those Opportunities have been hit.
onethought99: This is one of devs best in my opinion, definitely my fav off 'Addicted'. I love his attitude with his new stuff where he is just doing it because he loves it and tells us (the fans) to find our own meanings. A brilliant approach...
dannyvool: Its usually the most talented people who are never rewarded the way they should be... fuk the mainstream! luv a bit of devin. u guys should also check out the band Karnivool if you havn't yet, they are the best band over here in Australia and put on an amazing live show. \m/
johnpetrucci87: I think this song is literally about having sex. Ih-ah-ih-ah. I bet Devin struggled keeping a straight face when recording this song.
johnpetrucci87: This song is still awesome btw.
melodiousMO: ih-ah is the sound a donkey makes.. in german. i thought it would be a cute reference to it :)
