A popular Australian novel by CJ Dennis is titled 'A Sentimental Bloke' contains much Australian slang, and has been very well-known since its publication early last century.

"God is Dead, book by The Archbishop of York publ. about 1951.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, interviewed on TV, sagely commented that he could not say that it was not true, but he could say that it was not the whole truth.

PraiseShemp: Poppa used the Sacred Spook to impregnate momma with Junior, making Junior his own Poppa (ick.) Then Poppa told Junior to commit horrible suicide as a sop to Poppa. Junior asked to be let off the hook, but Poppa said no, so Junior committed horrible suicide as a sop to Poppa. Saving momma from eternal torment in the process, of course, poor girl. What a sick story.
