The Last Emperor Video
The life in pictures of Aisin-Gioro Pu-Yi the famous "last emperor" of China 末代皇帝. In 1908, as a small boy, he was chosen to succeed GuangXu as "Great Emperor of the Great Qing Dynasty, Grand Khan of Tartary, the Son of Heaven and Lord of 10,000 Years". As Emperor Xuantong he reigned while regents ruled until the revolution and abdicated in 1912. He was briefly restored by a monarchist warlord during World War I but in 1924 another warlord forced him to leave the Forbidden City. He moved to Tianjin where he was protected by the Japanese. In 1932 he was taken by the Japanese to Manchuria to lead the State of Manchukuo as Chief Executive. In 1934 he was formally enthroned as Emperor Kang Teh of the Great Manchu Emperor. Following the Japanese defeat in 1945 he was captured by the Soviets, later turned over to the Red Chinese and kept in prison for ten years of "reform through labor". He was then released and married to a communist party member to serve as an example of the "reformative" abilities of the communist regime. He died under somewhat questionable circumstances in 1967.

Xandrixo: Like the Emperor Guangxu, Puyi wanted to reform China into a modern society. I the Xinhai Revolution did not take place when it did and gave him a chance to rule China would have been a better place, but then again you could say the same if the Emperor Guangxu was not betrayed. I would like to see the Forbidden City one day, I imagine its a wonderous place.
