Scratching-- "Jimmie Brown the Newsboy" Video

In her book 'Among My Klediments', June Carter Cash says that her mother's famous picking style was "developed out of necessity". In Pore Valley, pretty much everybody played the same set of instruments. This unique method employs a bass line as well as the higher strings, kind of replicating the job of a drum (boom chink).

Here is a little example of my adventures learning the "Carter Scratch". This is the first bar of a little tune taken from Mother Maybelle Carter's teaching repertoire. I just picked it up last week, hence the stiffness of my hands.
