President Obama Declares H1N1 Flu A National Emergency Video

President Barack Obama declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius now has authority to bypass federal rules when opening alternative care sites, such as offsite hospital centers at schools or community centers if hospitals seek permission.

Administration officials said the declaration was a pre-emptive move designed to make decisions easier when they need to be made.

Hospitals could modify patient rules — for example, requiring them to give less information during a hectic time — to quicken access to treatment, with government approval, under the declaration.

Some hospitals have opened drive-thrus and drive-up tent clinics to screen and treat swine flu patients. The idea is to keep infectious people out of regular emergency rooms and away from other sick patients.

MrsDomino: My children came home with an information pamphlet and permission slip to get the H1N1 Nasal vaccine. I told my children forget about it. I feel like this.Nobody I know had this shit yet. Me personally am not going to have my children get this unnecessary shot. On top of that the paper says that only Certain persons will be given compensation in the event horrible side effects occur.

fearNotone: Another thing too is: These clips in this segment are probably fake (meaning that they gathered clips from people in line for something else or getting or shots or clips of events that had nothing to do with the H1N1 vaccination) The media are very sneak snakes. This could be a ploy to make the viewer think that there is a rush, need or emergency to run out and get vaccinated.

bjizza2: 1000 people have died from H1N1, that is tragic but on avg 40,000 people die from reg flu each year and usually from complications like pneumonia not the flu itself. All this is a smoke screen to get around push back by consumers and health professionals who say the new vaccine has not been tested enough. By declaring it an emergency the gov't does not have do worry about testing and send 'experimental' drugs straight to citizens. That is the premise of the declaration, there is no emergency
