Dr. Oz Turns Meat-Eating Cowboy Vegan Video
We previously featured a segment from the Dr. Oz show, in which he challenged a meat-loving cowboy named Rocco to go vegan, in order to save his life.
Here's what happened to Rocco after 28 days as a vegan -- and the awesome accomplishment of losing 30 pounds was just the beginning.
LatumWay: I'm not trying to be contentious here, so don't bite my head off, but isn't dairy for all mammals that make milk? (ergo, humans as well)
BaronesaReturns: can only facepalm at this comment, sorry... i can accept people wanting to be vegans or vegetarians and thats absolutely great with me, but don't try to bullshit us with pseudo science... as profit said, study, do research. Anthropology, evolutionary biology etc.
snivellinggit: @LatumWay I'm pretty sure most mammals are weaned by the time they grow up.

4moonbow: Inspiring to all :) Thanks for your vid clip
UrDoinItWrong: And I return your facepalm, as you clearly are talking out of your ass and have NO clue regarding any recent research. I have undoubtedly done more research in this subject than the both of you, and you simply stating words like "der biology and stuff" shows how little you understand said sciences. Please refute the mountains of evidence from Cornell, Oxford, Harvard and all the other "pseudo-science" bs-ers I get my info from. Try actually reading and researching instead of pretending.
UrDoinItWrong: human milk = for humans cow milk = for cows They are not remotely the same in protein composition or nutrient content.
SEElovEverywhere: Great video! We chose not to have a TV so i did not know about Dr. OZ but this is great. i will share with all my friends on social networking sites. ♥
UrDoinItWrong: Since you know so much about "anthropology , evolutionary biology" please explain how any of that refutes the fact that all modern research shows that a whole foods, plant-based diets is the most optimal for human health. Oh, and if you had actually studied any evolutionary biology since the early 70's you would know how varied even paleolithic diets were based on region, climate and environment. Our human evolution was not based on meat consumption, this has long been proven.
jwbarne: Great clip! Thanks for uploading!
LatumWay: Tell that to the vast majority of nutritionists.
786Lady: So refreshing to see a person recognize harmful behaviour and take actions to correct it. Congratulations Rocco!
Meggool: Yay Rocco. We LOVE you! Go Rocco, Go. Veg-out baby. And do remember the humanity in going low meat.
FM897: This is so awesome! It's so nice to see well-respected physicians advocating this way of eating and to see that it's possible for the most unlikely people to improve their lives. Makes me happy :)
000EatMan000: ok but what's your greater point? we shouldn't have dairy?
BeekersSqueakers: It's rather sad when the majority of people think it's funny when someone says "there was nothing green on my plate" Eating that much meat is horrible on your body regardless if you're a vegan/ vegetarian or not.
CannibalsEatAnimals: FYI MadCowboy (dot) com is another former farmer that is Veg. Also todays factory farms are horrible abuse of animals MeetYourMeat (dot) com. Many top athletes are veg too, look up famous vegetarians. VeganHealth (dot) org is from a registered dietician. myspot vegetarianveganparadise
Marcoosianism: Well congrats to Rocco. I'm just curious as to when Dr. Oz began advocating a vegan diet, hehe. I remember a time when it appeared he wasn't totally on board with that concept, though I can't site any specific references. I would have also established contact between Rocco and Howard Lyman, another meat-eating cowboy turned vegan most are probably aware of. He would have been an appropriate mentor ;-) I wonder if this was just a 28 day plan or a life-long change.
LaurenMinutes: lol @ mike ona horse!
ImmortalKindergarten: Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Rocco!!!!!!!!!!
rtfdc1: This video was very inspiring. The change to a vegan diet is very correcting when it comes to the physiology of the body in the short term. In the long term though, the body needs a good protein source to maintain muscle density and strength. I'm not advocating a diet like the cowboy had, but there is a place for meat in the diet. That is why we are omnivores, a bit of everything.
PoppyBrown: I was thinking the same thing, about Howard Lyman.
SSTACINATOR: I am proud he got help from Dr. Oz and The Enforcer. Congrads Rocco
rtoriq: So since there's no cholesterol in a vegan diet, how did his LDL (bad cholestorol) raise?! Am i missing somethin? Even the Dr Oz said he was shocked by that. i really can't see how that happened... ...possible reasons anyone?
axiomae: Hi rtoriq, It actually was measuring his HDL cholestorol, so, his good cholestorol. HDL going up is a good thing, and Dr Oz was surprised that is went up so much. Hope it helped!
