Appalachian Melody Ukulele UkesterBrown Video
Mark Heard wrote this song in 1979 and he passed away in August 1992 at the age of 40. He was a true musical poet in the 1970's. I have loved this song ever since I first heard it; I hope I do it justice. I simply finger picked strings 1, 2 and 3, trying to keep it simple. I tried playing this song many other ways including multi tracks and it just didn't sound right to me.
The video is from my Mac off the roof of my car in Sakatah Lake State Park near Waterville, Minnesota. In the Lakota language "Sakatah" means "singing hills". The gold Maple at the end of the video is from a neighborhood park near my house and I thought it interesting how the wind and light plays with the leaves making them different colors as the well as the appearance that there are less or more leaves on the tree. Illusionary in a way.
ctrymaus: This is so beautiful, I made it a favourite. If you had done it multi-tracked or anything fancy, it would have detracted from the entire feeling of inherent simplicity. I love this--it brought tears to my eyes.
sinner48: nice one i enjoyed it a lot well done.god bless mark
CallsThunder: Beautiful song and vid. Thanks for sharing.
LeoHareMusic: Very nice, Ukester!
uke5417: Beautiful song, beautiful clip of the leaves. In my town, there's a sculpture consisting of thousands of 4 by 4 inch mirrors, side by side and one above another, each hinged to swing slightly in the breeze, altogether creating a sheet 40 by 100 feet on the wall of a building. You can "see" gusts of wind as they sweep across the panel. I could watch it for hours, just as I love to watch leaves in the wind. I'll shoot it and use it in a vid some day. thanks
phillipsderek: Lovely tune. Nice job!
nicelybakedbread: thanks for introducing me to this song, the video is also really surreal, thanks
UkesterBrown: That sounds really cool. I'd love to see that some day too.

russbuss415: great performance and beauty of a vid.
YoppyKyabetsu: Lovely
KenMiddletonUkulele: What a lovely song. Thanks.
UkesterBrown: Thanks, Russ. I shot several, but this one got used because of the way the sun "ran" across the ground and created the prism sunspots with the lens.
DonfromMT: Very nice song. We have had an odd fall here in our town. The leaves never changed color, just went to brown. I've never seen that before. Kind of took something out of the fall.
UkesterBrown: Kind of the same thing here too, Don. I think it was cuz we had a really dry summer. Last year would have been really pretty, but we had rain and wind that took 'em right off.
TheUlilele: sweet song, beautifully played. thx!
jmmquah: Lovely song and subtle video
unclejeff64: good one ukester!
